In the email today.

Wow, how do I explain this?? Okay The 1879 Morgan coin you bought for a total of $23.50. Well I went on emergency leave and my friend watching my house was messing around and accidently relisted the item after it was already sold on 2 August. I am soooooooo sorry this happened. What would you like me to do, just refund your money or would you like me to send you an 1898 Morgan instead? Again I am sorry about the confusion I have been trying to figure out what the hell happened. If you just want a refund that is fine with me, just let me know.

Ok, good communication, but it bothers me that you have a friend that can list your items....

Question, What to do with feedback, I am a little upset, but don't want that to sway a judgement call.

If this is a board member, please PM me and we can discuss this.

I think it sucks, but, if it is the seller I just looked up (not too hard to do with the information given), then, he sold the 1879 on 8/2/03 for $16.50. That is less than what you "won" it at...if he were trying some funny business, I don't think he would do it like that....especially since you were willing to pay more than the previous winner. And, he wasn't asking you to pay more anyway.
Also, he only has 4 items up for sale right now and the 1898 seems like his way of trying to give you something in the same area (morgan dollar).

He has limited feedback, 19, but it is all positive so far.

Again, I think it sucks, but I would take the refund and, personally, I wouldn't give neutral or negative since he appears to be trying to correct it in the right way (as long as he refunds you quickly).

So, if it were me, that is what I would do....get the refund and leave no feedback....

Above all, get the refund or a better coin out of him. See what you can negotiate first. It's an opportunity in some ways.

Then I would check the seller's feedback. If it's a repeat problem, and all you get is a refund and a headache, give him a negative. First time? neutral. If a new coin can satisfy you, consider a positive or no feedback at all.

A friend of mine used to have a gunshop and when something was disassembled and could not be put back together by the owner or it was just flat out broken, it was always a "friend" that took it apart and lost the parts or mangled it.

He probably just relisted it by mistake and wants to make good.

He can't cancel the second listing? If his "friend" relisted the item, have him cancel it. He's upset the coin sold too cheaply, and wants more money. Doesn't want a neg, so he'll offer up a different coin.
I'd tell him to send the original coin, or receive negative feedback. Only because I think the story is a crock.

Hey, things happen. I confused myself a few times before. The seller made a mistake and is willing to try to make things right. I would probably give positive feedback, maybe neutral but not negative.

Sounds fishey to me. I'd tell him to cancel the auction that relisted the coin. If doesn't, I'd contact ebay.

Things happen! People are usually honest, and this seller seems to be willing to be honest and work it out. I wonder why so many here are suspicious that this is a "crock" or a "fishy." It isn't a huge amount of money, the person contacted you apologetic, and wants to make it right. Take whatever offer you feel best about, and leave positive feedback for the way the seller handled it. Why not?

Good grief it's an accident. He's trying to make things right. I certainly wouldn't give him a neg. I'd either give him a pos. or wouldn't leave feedback at all.

Might be a plain ol 'Joe' collector trying to sell something. No scam no sham. Give him a break.

If it was a pro dealer/businessman, no quarter asked, no quarter given.

It's a $25 coin for Christ sakes. In addition its a common commodity type coin. Get your refund, accept his apology and move on.

If it were a high priced item I'd be concerned, but not for $20. Sounds like the guy is trying to make things right. Definitely a positive feedback if the refund is prompt.

To people wanting a better coin or see this as an opportunity, I have to ask why you would suggest taking advantage of something that actually appears to be an honest mistake and by a person, not a company???
I did some research in ebay last night (see my first post), if I was correct, then, I don't see this being a scam....why would he email the higher of the 2 bids to say the coin was already sold and mistakenly relisted? If I were running a scam, I would keep the sale with the larger bid.

Whether or not it was the seller (trying to save some face) or a "friend" who did the mistaken relisting, at least he is trying to correct it.
Again, my likelihood would be no feedback...not neutral and not positive. If it was the seller I looked at, with only 19 feedback, he doesn't seem to be scamming and is probably some college kid selling things.
