I hate 1/1's...

before and still there are the masterpiece 1/1's, which i like, but i hate these:

it's a 1/1 because...

it's the first one made
it's the last one made
it's # 1352/2500 and there is only one card with that number
it's his jersey #
there's 4,5,6...colors or it's a patch with that many colors
there's only one graded in that particular grade
that's his total # of home runs, hits, points, etc he had last year

i could consider a logo patch being 1/1, but still it's not a masterpiece 1/1

what other 1/1's have you encountered?

edited: also, the best one, it's a 1/1 because i have never seen one like that before

I have seen one where it was something like 51/100 or something and 51 was the jersey number of one of the guys he played with.

I believe jersey #'s are even better than one of one's. First off, other people can collect the same issue (different serial numbers) so the value of the jersey # will go up. Just take a look at what a Ultra Platinum Lebron James #23/100 went for on Ebay. There will always be a demand for jersey number cards…especially Rookie jersey numbers. As for masterpieces, yea they are nice but how many times do you get to see them? They are never available. That’s why the special serial numbers are popular with collectors. They see the value of the other numbered cards and realize that the first, the last and jersey # are always in demand.

You don’t have to collect them if you don’t like but I absolutely love jersey # cards and have made tons of $$$$ from them. Don’t buy them please, I want as many as possible.

Oh and I just had a buyer who took a large part of my sell list recently… All he said was “I’ll take any card with a jersey # in it”….Common RC’s, semi stars, all-stars….all are worth more with special serial numbers.

As for other numbers (like this guy was born in 1976 etc) well it’s up to the seller. Someone out there might like it etc. I remember seeing a pitchers card with his career wins total in the serial number sell for more…..I say why not, if you make money and there is a buyer, put whatever you want. Just don’t make a fool of yourself (my all time favourite was serial # 143/500 for a Kobe card….guy said “if you add 1+4+3=8…Kobe’s jersey number….can’t beat that!!!!

I like the jersey #'s as well. I don't see the first & last one made as potential "1/1's" though.
I have (and have had) a few of them and indeed, they bring nice cash.
Having a RC of your favorite player with his jersey # as serial number is just a cool thing. Too bad Shaq doesn't have any of those.

I think the first and last in a print run is cool, though i'd hesitate to spend more money on it. it would be sweet to have say a 99/00 SPx Francis #001/500 or 500/500, and they would command a premium

I feel this is a personal opinion, but my dealings in them, that they are strong sellers, especially in some cases, and even a rarity. I feel it is more of a rarity in a card that is produced in a large amount. Such as an older Elite Baseball card, like a #23/10,000 Sandberg, with 10,000 out there it is very hard to get this particular version, and I just feel is more desirable then a #23/25, even though they are still the only ones. My biggest gripes on the 1/1's on ebay are ones that are like #222/1000 and card #222, and especially the homemade 1/'s which I feel should be outlawed on eBay.

I think a graded card that is say a PSA 10 and a pop 1 is definately a 1/1 card. Vintage is advertised all the time that way and it shows how tough the card is.

Who says that 2 weeks later, there won't be another version of that card graded a 10?

i have one that the guy said it was a 1/1 because it was his rookie year that the number was 2000/2250

lol... or what about this... this is a true 'Ebay Discription' for a Rod Garnder jersey card...

"Why is this a 1/1? This card has never been on eBay and probably never will be again.
This was sent in exchange for a rare Rod Gardner autograph, but that card was never made. And this may be the only one of its kind"

i do a search for the same card and theres like 3 others on at the same time. do a search for completed ones and theres like 5...

I hate 1/1's...
