I think i'll go for my first neg FB

Bought a 1916 Lincoln a few weeks back, Link, as CH/Gem Unc. After receiving the coin most of us thought it was high end AU. I was waiting for the guy to leave FB, even mailed him after two weeks when no coin or email. I think he's waiting for my feedback for a good reason, i.e. he knew the coin was AU. Therefore i'm going to leave neutral with the reason why, maybe even commend him on his photog skils. I think it would be worth it.

Being that i think it is deception re his actions do you think i should email him first. I vote no.

  • I would contact him about returning the coin at his expense. If he satisfactorily accepted the return and gave a refund I would refrain from leaving any feedback. Give him a chance first, grading is not an exact science and you don't seem too sure yourself.

Considering the price, I wouldn't leave any feedback at all.

I would let it go. I want my first neg to be over more than a $16 coin.

He may not know any better. Have you ask to return the coin?

  • IMHO, nice price. Pretty coin. Does it look like the picture?

The obv looks high end AU. The reverse is XF/?. One wheat ear looks EX, the other shows clear signs of circulation, some wear and scratches. The coin has no luster what so ever.

It's his clear deception that makes me want to give this FB, no one would grade this ms, much less 63.
i.e an angle shot and oil on the coin, no feedback and no comm.
Excelent photagraphy skills, no grading skills although he uses the terminology to good effect.

I think deception. And a well worded neutral would ward off others.

  • Your description adequately wards me off. Being a novice and willing to learn; is the coin worth what you paid? Are you satisfied with the investment?

Not at all. And its not the cost that bugs me its his actions. I should have given a neg on my second purchase on ebay but figured it was my own stupidty and didn't. Maybe it is this time but i just don't liked to be deceived. And this guy is trying to deceive everyone and should be pointed out.

I saw some neutral feedback on a sellers page...

Neutral: Nice coin but seller didn't leave feedback

    Then checking the buyers feedback...

Complaint: You got your feedback, happy now?

    That's classic!
I needed a laugh and that was good for a few.

I am still missing a few feedbacks, but, I wait until after getting them before leaving them now. I also let the seller know when I receive it and my thoughts on the item (and the feedback I will leave once receiving some)...but, that is classic feedback....heheheheh.

I think giving a neutral for no feedback is stupid.

anoldgoat...for yours.....if you feel that way about it, why leave neutral instead of negative? If you were deceived and it is that far out of sorts, isn't that deserving of a negative?
He may be waiting for your feedback before his as I know many sellers do that...not always because they deceive, but because they fear feedback like "neutral....doesn't leave feedback" kind of things.

That's not a bad looking coin from the pic. I'd leave no feedback, use one of my annual free submissions & slab it, then put it back
on eBay. Maybe/maybe not get the $18.50 back. For that amount, I wouldn't bother with a feedback war.

The other option if you're really that mad: Wait until the last day of the 90 day mark where you can leave feedback for him & do it
at the last minute. You might squeeze it in without him noticing before his chance to retaliate expires.

I've left neg once before and mainly because the guy was blowing me off.
This was intended as a stealth neg. Neutral and he might fergitit althought the msg is very clear, and i wouldn't neg without communicating the the seller first. Here i wanted to sneek it under the wire with my msg getting thru to the buyer image

Speaking of feedback- I saw one where a buyer left neutral feedback commenting how happy he was with the item, but was not happy
that the seller shipped THE VERY NEXT DAY after payment was made! He ruined the sellers pristine feedback for this & naturally was
given a negative in return. I know the feedback system isn't supposed to be about feedback, but that guy seemed to deserve it for
    being so incredibly petty.

Ummm....waiting for the 90th day to leave feedback and trying to "sneak it in" doesn't work if the seller (or buyer) knows how to use the system.
This has come up over and over again on the ebay boards (forums) and on RCC (and probably other places).

So, if that is your strategy, you better hope the other party doesn't know the system (I believe you just really need to know the item number still), doesn't care, etc..

Have you contacted the seller or ask to return the coin?
    Larry

  • "Deception" is one way to interpret the transaction. However, it's also possible the seller is honest and it's simply a bad photo and poor grading skills.

The only way to know is to contact the seller. Give him a chance to respond to you.....makes more sense than first assuming the worst and attempting to punish him with bad feedback. If the seller stonewalls you over returning a $15 item (who knows what he'll do, he has no stated return policy), then perhaps negative comments are justified. However, you did have a chance to ask questions or for more photos before buying but apparently did not. Hope you work out some sort of compromise. Good luck.

Why? Can you use the item number to do it manually after the 90 day mark? I've never done it, only heard about it. On this forum
    actually!

Anoldgoat: you bid on a coin with a bad picture (of only the obverse no less), and the seller has no stated return policy.

And I quote from the auction: "I would RECOMMEND insurance on your items as YOU are responsible if they do not arrive. Do not be penny wise and pound foolish."

RED FLAGS RED FLAGS!! Leave what feedback you will, but you walked into a trap. (Take it from an ex-sucker.)

Well taken JonZ. But my point is not that i stepped into this willingly and with both eyes open. Its the deceptive part that fills my sails. I do not beleive in false or deceptive advertisement, my llness i gues.

No one steps into a trap willingly and with eyes open unless they've planned a devious counteroffensive. Yes, THE SELLER IS DECEPTIVE. Welcome to numismatics. I certainly don't mean to belittle your situation, and I would wish for all people in the world to be honest and forthright, but it just ain't gonna happen. Your best tool is knowledge. Knowledge of coins, knowledge of eBay, etc.

I've been suckered out of hundreds of dollars on counterfeit Trade Dollars and Gold. (Education is indeed expensive.)

you would give a guy a neg without giving him a chance to make it right? Please don't bid on my auctions. mike
  • In my ebay experiences, I have had a few problems with items purchased not being as described. In the few instances I have had problems, I always attempt to contact the seller and resolve the issue in a civilized manner. That being said, under no circumstance do I leave feedback of any kind until I have attempted to contact the dealer to settle the dispute. If you are not satisfied with the result, leave a negative feedback. Just make sure you stick to the facts and do not rant like an angry eight-year old calling people names and such. He may very well reply with a negative feedback of his own. As long as you stick to the facts and take the high road it should do very little damage to your ability to conduct business on ebay.

Myself, I have fewer transactions on ebay than you and have received 6 negative feedbacks over 2 years ago when a person I called a friend bid on some football cards using my computer while he was house sitting for me. I contacted the sellers and offered to pay their ebay fees but I had no interest in the cards, so I was not going to pay for them. They were satisfied with my offer and subsequently left negative feedback. To this day I still conduct business on ebay. Just now I make sure I sign out of ebay before I log off. Good luck.

okay you can bid on my stuff.image mike
  • feedback is highly overrated. once you get to 100 or more who gives a rip? Most ebayers will try to make a buyer happy if possible. I was really disappointed with a slabbed matte proof Kennedy 2 weeks ago and so I sent it back. The seller agreed with my complaint and refunded the total price plus shipping. He lost money on the deal, but I would trust him completely from here on in. Give the guy a chance to fix the problem.
