MS64? Star? With THAT reverse? Seriously, are they all so poorly struck that they all look like the "States of Ame" were run over by a Dremel?

But the wad of bills which accompanied it has been spent image

The star is for Eye appeal not for the technical merits of the coin. The coin is a MS64 Then comes the star.

    hey Jim

i'm new to the series but have the ubderstanding that the branch mints wereheld at bay by Philly and given lessdies than what they needed for minting the nickels. the result is overuse of the dies and excessive wear coupled with weak strikes on a tough planchet to start with. a quick look at this coin shows weakness at "LI" on the obverse and corresponding reverse weakness at the denomination. the weakness you note also shows at the date. i'm surprised the designers initial under the date even struck up. i have some Buff's that almost join the lettering to the rims and yet are nice BU coins. the different services obviously take these factors into consideration.

finding a branch mint Buffalo with crisp details throughout is a treat and the premium is expected and usually accorded.
