interesting Pop-top question

GeomanGeoman Posts: 2,491 ✭✭✭
All,

With regard to some recent threads about pop-top coins, I want to throw out a question, and see what you think. What is the least expensive pop-top, or tied for a pop-top, coin? Obviously, it will probably be a modern. For example, say a PCGS PR69DCAM Kennedy, one that has no PR70DCAM for that year, but has a few 1000 at PR69DCAM, might sell for only $15. Is that the cheapest tied pop-top coin? I have been looking at DHRC, and see some pop-top coins around $350. What pop-top (or tied for pop-top) coins are under say $50?

I would say to look at proof Jeffersons in the 80s.

    Who is fastpay?

They state in the auction, that all coins are graded to ANA standards. However, I thought the ANA had it out with ACG, and the ANA said that the standards of ACG are not the same. Isn't this a big 'ol lie by fastpay?

Also, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth to have them say in their auction to please be patient, as phone calls and email slow them down. I would think that their customer service isn't the greatest. Just reading their auction description, I know not to buy from them. You would think they won't want to promote that attitude.
  • Fastpay is Joel D. Rettew. I have purchased a few very nice Morgans from him. The coins I have purchased have always been as described. He is also a noted numismatic author and a contributor to the Red Book.

Isn't Joel Rettew a peddler of ACG garbage?

  • Anyone who sells ACG junk loses a notch of respect in my book. And in the linked auction, $6.95 to ship a dime?????

He also, at least for awhile I don't know if it is still true, had a reputation for being VERY slow at paying for auctions that he bid on and won.

He's a peddler of garbage, period. He's also the biggest spammer in the coin business. It took a couple dozen times of reporting him to both his ISP and his web host to stop the piles of spam I was getting from him.

    Geoman,

Pretty much any of the PR69DCAM moderns with a high pop and no 70DCAMs can be had pretty cheap; Sacs, Kennedys, State Quarters, Roosies, Jeffersons, Lincolns. Take your pick.

  • I have bought a hand full of raw Morgans from Joel Rettew. I paid somewhere between ASK and BID of GreySheet for all of them. I have submitted all of them to PCGS and all of them came back certified at the grade they were purchased.

I have never received any SPAM from him.

He has never bought one of my auctions, so my dealings with him are from a buyers perspective. He ships promptly and packages his coins appropriately.

I am not endoursing him, but these are the results of my dealings with him.
