Mercury dime publications

Taking the often quoted advice of choosing one series and collecting that one series I chose the merc. Personally I just like the way it looks.

My question is are there any good publications on the mercury dime. Yes, I already used the search function. No luck on this board. If anyone can point me in the right direction I will owe you a debt of gratitude. For example what are the key and semi-key dates for this coin?

To answer your question about key dates in the Merc series. They are a bit different in the registry than they are for low grade coins. The 1921-P and 1921-D are not the 2nd and 3rd toughest dates.

If you check the weights of the set it will give you a good perspective. The 16-D has always been the key, but if you look at the weights it will help. Some of the S mint coins in the 20s and the D mint coins of the teens are the toughest.

Has the In Depth Study of Mercs been updated ? I still have mine from 1988 and have not seen it anywhere since returning to the pursuit of Adolphs Little Ladies. It is really out dated as far as the estimated survival in Mint State for the coins.

Both guides are really useful. David Lange's is probably the better of the two as he got into some of the finer points about Mercs that a average collector does not know about. This is probably true about any series that a person does not specialize in.

As usual experience is the best tool. Both books are a must for a person that gets serious about Mercs.

I think I could qualify.

I have half of the short set done. And pending a trade with someone, I may have 6-8 really good ones coming my way. Once I finish my war nick set (nearly done) I may focus on dimes for a while. I think they are undervalued.
