One TERRIFIC ebay customer. NOT.

I won't public disclose the buyer's name - but anyone wishing to know who the slimebag is, may PM me for the answer.

Recently I sold a solid PR67CAM (I'm not revealing exactly what coin either at the moment)
Started at one buck - photos and description clearly mentioning any problems with the coin. It had a couple of milk-spots, and overall conservable spotting. All in all - a beautiful coin.

This coin had every chance of going PR68CAM or maybe even PR68DCAM (depending on the service chosen) AFTER proper conservation. (operative word is "proper")

So after something like 2 weeks - I get an email asking if the coin can be returned with a bunch of crap about how it wasn't "frosty" enough, and wasn't a CAM, and therefore wasn't worth what he paid.

I had no particular problems with this, other than I do stupid crap with the proceeds of coin sales... like buying FOOD for instance. I pointed out the description and the photos - which basically explained he was an idiot - but I said I'd take it back and give him a full refund.

Got the coin back yesterday. Issued his refund, and what do I find on close examination?

Dipped... BADLY. This moron completely fscked up the coin - then returns it! image

Of course - I refunded his money, just like I said I would, but it'll be a cold day in h3ll before I ever deal with this slime-bag again. If you want to deal with him - certainly your option, but he's blocked from further bidding on my auctions (and a number of other folks).

What gets me - I gave this dickweed a glowing positive. He screws me over totally, and doesn't even have the courtesy to reciprocate. image

OK - I'm better now. Just had to rant and rave for awhile.

Why did you refund his money first? He sounds like a jerk and should be publically humiliated...

I never would have refunded him after altering the coin. It's no longer the same coin that you sent him. Your too nice! image

I stand by my word... But I'm not always HAPPY about it.

Its usually the slimeballs that have the most nerve. It's for that reason that I sell very few raw coins on Ebay. However, if someone removes a raw coin from a holder its theirs as far as I'm concerned. You should have that disclaimer in your return policy. Its fair.

Absolutely incredible story. That took some serious b*lls to return the coin after it was altered in such a way. I realize from this thread that you are a man of your word, but this is way out of line. It just demonstrates one of the shortcomings of ebay and taking out face to face transactions. People will try anything because of the anonymity.

I'm seriously considering beginning to put them in 2x2's or something for that very reason. That's sound advice, and I appreciate that.

I usually just ship in a flip with safety-mailer. I'm going to have to re-think the philosophy that most people are inherently honest. It's one of the reasons I don't advertise a return policy. I don't want to encourage it, since I'm not 'really' a dealer - just an out-of-work I.T. geek trying to put some food on the table. image

Read John Calvin on total depravity. It doesn't mean people will be as evil as they can be, but it means we are all affected by sin.

You can block him if you want, but Russ will continue to prey on other unsuspecting sellers.

Ummm.... you already told everyone else who it was, right? image

Don't give up on the Ebay buyers. Those kind are few and far between. However, they ARE present and you CAN'T avoid them. Taking some negs on Ebay is pretty much assured, due to the jerks.

Just a bit of a recommendation. Immediately upon learning of their intent to return the coin for a refund, try to negotiate a small refund. Point out that you don't refund S&H charges either way or the Ebay listing fee. When you add up both S&H charges, the Ebay listing fee and a small partial refund of $5 or $10, the buyer comes out ahead taking the partial refund. It is worth it for both parties to avoid the frustration involved in the return process.

Sorry, but I have a question. The guy sent back the coin. You refunded the money, THEN take a closer look at the coin? Shouln't you have inspected the coin first to determine if it had been played with?

ER - You are absolutely correct. The fault is mine for refunding the money without FIRST checking the coin.

It honestly never occurred to me that anyone would do that, then return it.

Judging from how full my PM box has been tonight, I'm going to get the last laugh. He'll find he's not able
to bid in quite a few auctions. heheheh...

btw - any of you guys blocking him, that have a "toad-smasher" account, might want to buy some of his sorry crap,
destroy it, then return it if you're so inclined. That would make the whole thing REALLY amusing.
Thanks to all for the kind words. image
