No one I know collects 3 cent nickle pieces.
Les
Ken
higher face value so, I think the dimes significantly overshadow the 3c nickel series.
I,m not sure we will ever see a very big market for them other than most collectors will
seek out atleast one for a type set or just a rounding out of ones collection on the whole.
I see it as a weak series with no upside potential besides pure collector enjoyment.
I wouldnt invest in them for any future profit like I might with say Mercs or early Washingtons.

3c nickels so we all cant get ANY. Maybe hes the guy to do it. I mean, look at Russ brain-washing us all into
collecting that non-circulating issue known as JFKs.
As KingArtR would say: `BY THE GODS!!!!!!`
I collect 3CN in MS and proof.
I think it is a great series with lots of history, many RPD and other varieties.
The PR are fairly easy to complete while some of the MS key dates difficult to find despite greysheet listings that are not reflective of their scarcity. There are also a number of patterns for the presentation coin crowd.
As you have said many times value depends on supply and demand.
The one in a million truly original, superbly toned 3CN is to the possessor and beholder something special.
For the true collector , it is the coin not the price tag that counts.
Maybe someday, there will be more interest in the series.

One last point about MS 3CN's: If you register even 1 coin, you are currently in the top 5 of the registry. If you register 3 coins, you are in 3rd place. If you register more than 15, you are scum because you pass me up!

I do not believe I have ever seen a post, picture, or question on Shield Nickels.
Here's a shield nick pic....I think you are correct, I've not seen an image either.

that 1874 shield you posted is a really neat coin as well!
for me
the three cent nickels in proof and ms especially so the proofs
are terribly undervalued coins with the right looks and they are destined to gain in popularity and so demand and i think many will be rewared with not only a fun odd ball series to collect
but they will do very well valuewise in the next few years!
and it sounds like some think they are so small they are like the size of a grain of rice!.............lol
well my eyes are not eagle eyes so to speak and i can see them just fine!! lol
if you cant see those three centers clearly without a glass under a proper light then i would forgo buying coins and go and make an appointment to your eye doctor and get your vision checked and maybe a new pair of shades for you and maybe a bag of chips.....................lol

any deep ice blue toned proofs that are cameo are super rare coins these are tissue toned proofs but as per the above they have to be confirmed by someone who knows the true look of these coins and if an 1885 a really super undervalued beautiful coin
also proofmthree cent nicks thaty are monster rainbow pastel toned are rare super value great coins to own
same with ms coins but these are really rare in higher grade gem unc if they exist at all
well to each his pown and have fun with coins
but with regards to three cent nicks what really do i know? i havbe only been specializing in them with a PASSION for the last three decades
i am sure many on this thread will forget more than i know

It's not a particularly attractive design, but I'd like to get a PR66 or PR67CAM for my type set.
Jim
Bruce Scher has a remarkable MS set, but his proofs are no less than astounding. I doubt his set would ever be surpassed.
And don't let Michael fool you; he knows more about 3CNs than Longacre. I'm in his debt for all that he has taught me.
All that being said, I want you all to listen to the guys who think the series sux, so that people will stay away and I can still afford nice ones--unlike some other series I know.
