OT is a tough issue... the majority should be in the open forum. Those that are connected to US coins in some capacity can be posted here... For example...why wasn't there a Teddy Roosevelt Commemorative coin?

I check out and contribute to the threads I enjoy particpating in.

Generally, a few OT posts/threads is nice and even appreciated. It allows the forum members, who are like a community, to get to know each other a bit more outside the context of strictly numismatics.
On the other hand, this is a fairly busy site with a great number of participants. If too many of us become careless about this issue, then it seriously negatively affect the signal-to-noise ratio. When that happens, then a great deal of us loses. After all, we were all attracted to this place for the purpose of having numismatically-oriented interactions.
The huge number of us here, I am certain, are great people who mean no harm. When we post flighty messages, I'm sure it almost always is intended to let off steam, put a smile on someone else's face, or to inject some pleasant levity. However, we should be mindful of how flighty we get with our posts.
I really don't see to much of a problem. A few anal contributers get upset but in my mind ,they need to lighten up. The people on these boards are some of the brightest I've met in a while. 99% will go 100 miles out of their way to assist in any way they can. EVP was correct in saying that we ought to give the kids a little room.

I love OT threads, but apparently some people get offended by them. I think OT threads help relieve some of the stresses in this forum.
My opinion only, so take no offense....you know who you are.
those little kids need to be selective on what they read
and then they won't see the stuff that bugs them
stuff gets buried quick enough here without the garbage piling up.

They were cancelled due to the absence of a sense of humor on the part of several forum members.

OK, now that was funny.
