I have to question your comment about the proof 1971DD being rarer than the 1909VDB Matte based on PCGS pop numbers. (in your Ebay Ad) Rarity is very hard to define with error coins because, in most cases, no one really knows how many exist. The 1909VDB is a classic Lincoln with a mintage of 420.(I do not accept Kevin Flynn's numbers or rationale). Over all the years of third party grading, less than 150 of these coins (including resubmits) have been certified by ALL the services. Today, most people would agree that maybe 200 of these coins exist. The 1971DD is what I would consider one of the "many" Lincoln DD varieties known in many different dates. It is not nearly as obvious as the 1969 or the very famous 1955. The fact that PCGS has chosen to include it in the Registry will, no doubt, increase its value, BUT, there may have been a large quantity minted, but not "discovered" yet because of lack of interest by most Lincoln collectors in the past. To hype this coin and the two 1960 DD large date/small date combo's compared to the 1909VDB Matte and the 1990 no "S" based on reported pop numbers is a little misleading in my opinion. The visual appearance of the 1990 no S is VERY evident. Not so for these others. I know this whole subject is controversial, but that is what makes collecting such fun. Heck, I went out and bought the 1936 Lincoln Satin proof to add to my Brilliant version in the last year just because the Registry said it should be included. Until a few years ago, most Lincoln cent collectors would have been satisfied with one example. I guess in the future, the Registry set configuration will make or break the value of some of these obscure varieties. And THAT statement is definately JMHO. Steve

and a KNOWN amount certified by all services to date (including re-submits). There are only experts estimates as to the number of a
particular variety that has been minted (e.g. for the 90 No S I beleive it is around 150 or so). The thing is no one really knows. One
can only guess/assume/speculate that there may be thousands of a particular variety that is as yet undiscovered (not seemingly
possible with something like the VDB) but the probability decreases with every passing day and with every additional one you expect
to be found. e.g. There may exist 1 more 69-S DD that is a 6 Red - probability greater than zero but very low indeed & there may even
exist a complete roll of them in 67 red - again the probability greater than zero but must be exponentially smaller than the probabilty of
finding just the one in 66 and about as close to zero as you can reasonably get - say, e.g. .000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001?

An appropriate comment concerning placement of this thread...I think that Roger may have meant this for the Set Registry thread and placed it in this forum by accident (he already has a BST thread going on these coins but not a Set Registry thread unless I missed it somehow).
Putting him on your don't buy from list seems a bit harsh (isn't this a first offense?...plus he does still have less than 100 posts). I had enough trouble here myself when I was new and I must have annoyed more than my fair share of people as my user rating was about two at one time early on. If you disagree with his opinions or style that's one thing but I hope that you don't let a (possibly) misplaced thread carry much weight in forming an opinion about him.
On the other hand anything that removes others from competing against me for his coins is good in my book.

I refuse to do business with anyone who uses forums other than the BST forum to do business here. I have always been against it (selling and especially ebay sales on the Registry and US forums), and the only way I can do "something" is by choosing to not do business with those who use these forums in that manner.
I apologize to redcents for my manner in voicing my opinion on this thread.
