    Entry Two.

OK, I know this one won't win because it isn't really 50s or early 60s or bee bop, but

"Star Spangled Banner" by Jimi Hendrix, recorded live at Woodstock and never again.

Probably the best rock guitar work ever performed or maybe even conceived of. Totally improvised, actually performed after the concert was officially over. Never studio recorded. A once in a century inspired piece which must only come from outside the artist. It spoke to a generation and a world it inexplicable ways. You didn't even need to be stonedimage.

Actually, it's pretty hard for me to choose from the '60's because I like so many early Floyd material...

This probably takes me out of the running because Lucy likes DooWop...

I couldn't make it through all of the posts so I don't know if someone posted it. But my favorite about 50's music is "American Pie" Don Maclean.

    Hey, HepKitty!

A really rockin' hello from "North, To Alaska," where we broke a record here today at 83 degrees. This is typetone's wife, who never posts, as looking at her husband's coins invariably causes her to become very sleepy. Nevertheless, she loves music, and of course The King of Rock and Roll, whose death in '77 when she was a mere wisp of a girl (who else was around for adolescent girls to idolize then? Bobby Sherman? eek!!) still makes her sad...and mad...at Priscilla for leaving. But I digress... Here's my thoughts on that era, rock and roll style:

1950's.................Don't Be Cruel by Elvis Aaron Presley

early 60's............Rhythm of the Rain by The Cascades

late 60's..............The Weight by Robbie Robertson and The Band
    (Music from Big Pink '68)

Also, let's not forget a shout out for all our R&B brothers and sisters, especially the Late (July 5, 2003) Great Barry White (who can forget Ecstasy, Can't Get Enough, et al, and especially his last hit of the '90s Practice What you Preach), The Right Reverend Al Green, (Let's Stay Together, Still in Love with You, etc.), and of course, the Queen of Soul herself, Aretha Franklin, (esp. "Until You Come Back to Me.") Speaking of sisters, Orange Juice Jones, Chaka Khan, and Tina Turner too.

Long live rockabilly, Elvis, rock-n-roll & the Motown sound!

Typetone, you're absolutely correct about Jimi's impromptu Star-Spangled Banner. Simply brilliant! Jimi played so much outstanding music it's hard to choose my favorite.

Quatrocoins, I think you're right about the Dead!

EVP, Floyd had some totally cool tunes!! I loved seeing them in concert, and listening to their records.

Hep-Kitty, sorry if I'm not really in to 50s music too much. But I do love Miles Davis and B.B. King.

a peek into the Life of the Hepkitty....... the 1950s and early 60s music is my life..... I started collecting this music as a very young girl and I just love it.... I have flown out to New York and New Jersey just to buy music........ and make contacts with those whom know me from my website....... the 50s are the ultimate Daddy-o!!!!! This Kitten can get real gone with any crazy boppin' beat........ Right now as we speak I am listening to some very rare and obscure 50s Rockabilly music with Jungle themes... Yup, even the animals gotta Rock'N Roll!!!!!! Music is a everyday thing in my home...... Just ask my neighbors or the local Police department.... They'll say, "that Kitty can reall rock!"

EVP, Floyd had some totally cool tunes!! I loved seeing them in concert, and listening to their records.

Yes they did. Syd added that "special" dimension that I needed to get through my teen years. (BTW, I only liked his music, not his lifestyle!) I basically stopped listening to their newer stuff after The Final Cut. Admittedly, however, Gilmore did continue to put out good stuff!

Lucy, do you like early Floyd? BTW, "early" is before Syd got committed...

I somehow doubt the Hepkitty is into Floyd in anyway. Perhaps the Moody Blues would be more pleasing to her sonic palate.

Not that they would be considered `Hepcats` the Mamas and Papas music was pretty tremedous when looking back in retrospect

It is next to impossible to figure out my favorite song from that era, there is just too many great ones to choose from. So, I'll just pick one that I like a lot, and maybe I'll figure out my favorite later.

I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND - Beatles (1963)

Personally, not my favorite song by them, but "LET IT BE" doesn't qualify.--- (1970)

So with that, please add my name to the entry list

    Thanks.
    David

And with that, I'll dedicate the next song I play in my stereo to you Lucy....

LUCY IN THE SKY WITH DIAMONDS - Beatles (1967)
