Yeah, I went with that last option too. I just can't get charged up over some of the freaky type 1 / type 2. Is it really that important that the letters are just a little skinnier or the "s" is filled? I would prefer to collect major type vs minor variety.

the easiest way to recognize it for me is by studying the detail in the eagle's wing feathers. look at the wing feathers to your left of the perch that the eagle is on. Type 1 coins have 4 easily identifiable feathers and weak detail in the wing itself. Type 2 coins will only have 3 wing feathers and much better detail. Proof 1955 and prior coins are all T1 while proof 1957 coins and all subsequent are T2. since the change took place early in the 1956 run, it encompasses only a small percentage of the total, with CAM/DCAM coins being true rarities and priced accordingly.
here we have the subject coin re-sized on the left to blow up the eagle and a correctly designated Type 1 coin on the right. the difference is easily noticed, even in the fuzzy scan.
I voted type 2, you can't see the breast feathers that well, but the rest looks like the type 2.

Here is a type one, notice the lack of definition in the Eagle, the breast feathers and the wing feathers.
here is a type two, you will notice a sharper strucker more detailed Eagle. Breast feathers visable and wing feathers strong.
Any Franklin proof from 1950 - 55 will have the type 1 Eagle. Any Franklin proof from 1957 - 63 will have the type two..... compare the differences next time your at a shop or show.. Once your eye is trained what to look for, you'll never miss picking them out from the 1956 issue.

I guess a coin will sometimes morph in a 6-year-old thread.
