but also a POR why no prices??
i would love to see the 1878 s trade in pcgs ms68 i take it it is a newly gradeed coin?

My philosophy on POR advertising is simple:
-Either have the balls to list the price, even if it is a very , very rare coin,
or if you are worried about low offers, then put it up for auction through Bowers or Heritage, or someone big, where it will get the publicity and heavy bidding. POR listing is very annoying. I don't care whether its a rare coin or a $10 coin, list the price or put it up for auction. POR to me is a joke.

I've always felt that POR may indicate that the seller is just not sure how much he can get for the coin. It comes down to what the top buyers are willing to shell out. They'd much rather have those individuals call where they can feel them out individually and see what kind of "offer" falls out. Once they list a price they can't go higher. A listed price might also let their competition know what kind of price range they were buying in. It might mean another dealer offering coins to them at a higher level because of info they
divulged. Very few people in the market have a clue as to what the Knoxville coins are truly worth.......or what they can be sold for.
Why should BV educate them? If someone is truly interested in the high grade before the high price, they will call on them any ways.
Personally I don't condone the POR listings. A selling dealer should be able to identify the price they want for the coin and then list it.

Michael, Tradedollarnut has said in another thread that it is the Knoxville Specimen and that it did just upgrade from MS 67.
As far as POR, they have always done that with certain coins, ( which I hate ). There was a period of about a months time that they did not post a single price on ANY OF THEIR COINS !!
The Reason, I assume, is because I posted actual prices on specific coins with the cert numbers on this forum, and compared them to the same identical coins at two other websites. The two other websites advertised the coins at THOUSANDS LESS than Benchmark.
These are the same coins, (same cert # ). The reason I did the comparison was because Benchmark, through spam and large Coinworld ads was claiming to cut out the middleman and would save coin collectors a lot of money. Benchmark claimed to be the a major seller of rare coins to most dealers.
It took me about five minutes to do the comprarisons from the three websites, and I just picked three coins at ramdom. One coin was advertised at Benchmark for $145,000, but at another website, the same coin, ( same cert. # ) was only $135,000. I asked Benchmark how they were saving me money, if I bought the $145,000 coin for $10,000 more than at another website, but they never replied.
It was immediately after I posted the comparisons on this forum, that all prices on Benchmark Ventures' website were removed, for, at least a month.
Their main advertising gimmick, cutting out the middleman, which they advertised extensively, went up in smoke that day. If they were caught so easily at this deception, you can only imagine what else is smoke and mirrors at this West Coast Dealer.
What is the " Benchmark " of Honesty ???
The reason a price on request is quoted is because the coin may not be available when someone requests the price
Is this ethical? to be listing a coin and trying to sell it for Collector A or Dealer B and implying that it is yours? I am not sure - put it happens frequently

I GUESS i am still a little neive as lots of what i read on here was a real eye opener to me
i think that i will be reading much less and taking nothing at face value of the ads in coin world as i think i am being played more than i am learning something constructive about the coins available and prices as such
