SEGS does a pretty good job on Large cents. Someone mentioned that B. Grellman does the grading and attribution for SEGS on early
copper. I don't know if that is true, but I do know one very knowledgeable collector who sends all his large cent slabs to SEGS because he thinks they do a very good job at grading and describing any problems. mdwoods

The 1796 has corrosion on both sides. It probably has been cleaned to one extent or another, but I wouldn't say that for sure from
the picture. It's not an unattractive coin.

The link is to a 1795 half cent. It has borderline fine sharpness, a few light pits, would probably net VG10 by EAC. Looks like nice color.

Yes, the ebay site is better to look at since the site I provided does start out with a 1795 half cent and you do have to scroll down to the second coin.
Sorry I did not tell everyone. So what do you think ?!? Is it worth $520? I purchased one last week for $150 but it was VG at best.

To tell you the truth, I think it is lacking in eye appeal. I'd rather have a choice example with smooth chocolate-brown surfaces. That would probably cost a lot more, though.

I don't collect anything near this old but eye appeal does mean a lot to me in lower grades and this one doesn't have it.

a coin that has too many excuses which cant reasonably be comfortably answered

Some were struck on porous and corroded planchets as well.

If I had that coin I,d be fretting all the time, wondering what , if anything, could be done to clean the green
junk off, and still save the coin.

If the green junk is PVC then, that would be a real mess to clean up.

Then it may have been better off not to strip the surfaces and leave it old green and crusty.

I remember I think it was TWODOGS showed an old Lg cent that looked like it had hair growing off of it.
Man it was grimey.

Sharpness of a VG-10 (Rev might reach F-12. No way is the sharness that of a 15) Surfaces are rough, there is raised corrosion on the left obv and around the wreath, the color is off like a dry rust color. Net G-4. I don't have my references here but I don't think the S-82 is an R-5. I'd value he coin between $120 and $170.
