WOW! Anyone else get Jay Parrino's Knoxville Catalog?

Just received it in the mail today. It has some of the most awesome coins I have ever seen images of. Anyone else get it? I will scan a page or two for those of you who aren't on his mailing list.

    K6AZ,

Why is this called "The Knoxville Catalog"? Does he or the collection have a Knoxville, Tennessee connection?

The only reason I ask is that Knoxville is my home town.

Yep! I've not been able to track down the name, but the person apparently lives here in Knoxville. But there are only so many people here in town who have the kind of resources to buy the coins reputed to be owned by them. I have a few suspicions as to who it is. I'd love to personally see them some time, though.

As Neil said, I haven't been able to figure out the relationship to Knoxville either.

For those of you who won't be getting the catalog, get a load of this 1795 Draped Bust Small Eagle Dollar:

Were the coins stored away for a long time in this collection or was it a not too old collection. Have any of the coins in the collection been bought from any auction in the past 20 years? Does anyone know the provenance of some of the coins? It sounds like an amazing collection of coins. So many questions, and probably so few answers.

Does he have a web site with the listings?

Which brings up a question... How come most of you dealers don't list your inventory on a web site? Do you have any idea how much more exposure (a.k.a. potential sales) you'd have?

Just answered my own question. He has a web site, but not much there. I called and he wants $50 for that catalog!

    nwcs,

I am always amazed by the wealth that some of the communities in West Knoxville display, but you are right in that there can't be to many individuals with this kind of cash.

Does Chris Whittle still live there? I know there are a few pro athletes that keep homes in the area. Reggie White built a house just outside of Alcoa during his prime. What about Todd Helton? Heath Shular? Paul Annacone? Dale Ellis? Bernard King?

  • I think there was a killer type set that was recently sold named the "Knoxville Collection." It had the most incredible examples of each type. TradeDollarNut was mentioning that the Knoxville Trade Dollar was just upgraded to MS 68.

I heard a rumor from a well connected dealer several years ago that there was no owner of the "Knoxville Collection" other than Mr. Parrino himself, who bought and put back the coins for several years.

Is the 1893-s morgan still in there ??

I called him about 6 weeks ago and ordered the 93s in au55.
I was even going to trade in my au53.
It still has not shown up.
I have called him at least 10 times and he keeps telling me the coin has shipped.
Is this guy full of **** ??

I think you'll find that some of the silver dollars were last sold in the Superior sale of May 91.
