to coin collectors also like to play poker?

BaleyBaley Posts: 22,663 ✭✭✭✭✭
I have time to post one more thread before my poker friends get here, just curious if the same personality types that causes us to like coins and guns and America also favors poker players.

anyone else on here enjoy wired pairs or the big slick when playing Texas Hold 'em?

I am a craps kind of guy.

give me a 3 way parlay of a hardway with just $1 to start with and it pays $650-$850. for a buck it is one of the best highs I have come across.

I like Poker, But I can never find any one around to play. Like playing for a little money, but not a big gambler. Watching the World tour of Poker is about as close to a game Ill see any time soon.

I like playing blackjack and poker. No money is involved, though, because gambling is illegal in NY and I'm under 18.

I am the world's worst card player, so I don't play.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

I go to Reno a few times a year and play $1 poker at the bar. Only one of those left now. Then after winning a little i'm off to the craps table or piagow to give it back and then some. Used to play poker with the guys once a month years ago. No one kept track of the winnings, just how much beer was in the frig.

    Baley,
In the old days there were always poker games. Been a few years since I've been to Long Beach, but last time
there was no action. Used to always play even at smaller shows. A good poker game was worth going to
    the show for.........

I've been playing poker with the same high school buddies, including my first wife(high school sweetheart) since 1970. Dealer calls the game. None of them collect coins but are all professionals(not pro poker players). Stock broker, attorney, chemical and mechanical engineer, and one works for NASA. I'm the scum of the gang with a degree from the C.I.A. It's fun and nobody loses more than $50-$75 at a time. Oddly enough, that's the only gambling I participate in, except for a few $2 scratch offs.

I love playing cards (got that from my dad), Texas Holdem is a great game, but I prefer Omaha Hi-Lo split.

I would love to start a game at the house weekly when I move to Murrieta. image

Whoa! Baseball, that's the game we play with 3s & 9s wild and a 3 up you match the pot, 4 up extra card, and if you play baseball (Rainout), the Queen of Spades up forces a re-deal and re-ante. This is the variation where the pot can get up ther a bit.

Well, we played and old baley did ok, winning both the limit and no-limit games, enough to buy a nice VF capped bust half dollar. Next Long Beach maybe a game will break out after the show image

I used to live 5 miles from an Indian Casino in Washington state. 7 card stud and
Texas Hold-Em financed the gold coins in my collection. There is nothing like playing
hold-em against people with a few drinks in them when you have an understanding
of pot odds. (Except when they suck out on the river!)

Played poker practically for a living in the early/mid 70s - seven card stud - breakfast of champions. Played $50.00/game gin rummy when I was making $200/week - that'll keep your shorts tight!

Haven't played seriously in 25 years, other than Hold 'em when I get out to las Vegas, which is not often enough. Wouldn't mind taking it up again, but takes a lot of time.

paigow poker...duh image I've tried the tiles too, but that one can get away from you if you don't have all the vagaries memorized.

I like Texas hold 'em, but am not quick enough yet to play well...and you always get some schmuck at the low stakes "beginners" table that wants to fleece the fresh meat...so I've pretty much stayed away.

Craps too...but I pretty much stick with pass, place the 6&8, and an occasional hard 6/8 for "the boys"

Haven't been in a casino for about a year and a half though...between the stock market dump and my devotion to completing my Morgan set...my precious reserves go elsewhere now.

Yes! Only semi-seriously recently (a few months back). No-limit Hold 'Em tourneys are my favorite.

jdimmick: I like Poker, But I can never find any one around to play. Like playing for a little money, but not a big gambler.

Try paradisepoker.com, that solves both problems. Always a bunch of people 24/hrs day, and they have 50 cent games. Very nice software.

littlewicher: I like playing blackjack and poker. No money is involved, though...

No money?? Sorry, that ain't poker. image

last night we had a great game, 5 good players, dealer's choice, average pot about $20.

then a tournament of no-limit hold 'em, which is a very very fun game, of course I ended up winning so it seemed a lot more fun for me than the others. but happened to get lucky at the end, holding Ace-four, caught an ace on the flop to beat pocket kings, neither of us improved, and the crowd went wild!

We're doing a "World Series of Poker" type event as a work get together. For those of you that don't watch the Travel channel, it's a last man standing Texas Hold'em tournament. We're going to give a proof 2003 Silver Eagle to the winner, The Collector's club 2003 Silver Eagle to 2nd, and a 1997 Silver Eagle I've carried in my pocket for a few years to third. I call that combining coins and poker.

Coins I am a novice at but gambling is a diffrent story. Would like to play for some of that gold!!!!! It's a very bad habit though and I 've been addicted for a long time. But the thrill is never gone. Good Luck all you gamblers.

    Baley,

The only gambling I do is sending coins in to be graded. I find it very addictive.
