Rusted die vs. porous planchet -- how can you tell the difference?

Does anyone have any examples that would illustrate how the two are distinguishable?

    No examples, but a porous coin has small pits, while a coin struck from a rusted die would have little "pimples" - the pits in the die caused by rust would be raised on the coin.

    New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
