How long do you keep USPS insurance and deliv. cfm. receipts on Ebay sales?

BarryBarry Posts: 10,100 ✭✭✭
A logical answer is until the buyer confirms receipt via email or posts feedback on Ebay. However, there's always a chance that some ne'er-do-well may try to claim non-delivery months later. How long do you keep those little blue and green receipts?

Permanently. They don't take up much room, in fact I still have every one dating back to 1998 in a small box. I save every bit of correspondence as well, and it has pulled my fat out of the fire several times.

I also have a huge pile of them - I don't throw em out.

So six months from now when someone tells Paypal they never received the item, I can always dig through the pile.

I keep a printout of each auction's details and the postal receipt stufff in an expanding file folder (by year) for everything, and I don't throw any of them away.

I keep them for income, tax, security, and business analysis purposes.

    Russ, isn't that overkill? 10yrs?

I store the usps delivery conf. in my computer. No hassel, no paper mess. Keep them for about a year and then delete them out.

    SmallTown,

you can take the hard drive out of the old oc, and piggyback it on a newerpc, copy all the files over and then take it out. It's not that hard, but someone who's familiar with pc's will probably need to do it for you.

    Boz,

I got audited three times the first five years I was in business. I don't take any chances.
