Absolutely dreamy 1955 D Washington Rainbow Colors galour

Just picked this up and thought I would share it, I am thinking of keeping this one for myself image

I am not sure if I should just keep it in the NGC holder or try and cross it. I know the value is much more in the PCGS holder, but since I am thinking of keeping it, what does it matter. I wish PCGS had some sort of star system, like NGC.

Here it is in the NGC holder...

ps, it will be at Long Beach for viewing.

How does that type of toning form?

Morris, that is a gorgeous quarter. I would leave it in the NGC holder. Those colorful quartes with the * are bringing as much or more in the NGC holder as a 66 PCGS would. I feel the market is only going to get strong for those * colorful quarters. I'd rather buy it any day in that holder than a PCGS 66.

Very cool color. What's up with the reverse rim above the A in America?

NGC insert plastic will sometimes 'overlap' on the coin.

I'm with IrishMike. PCGS is stingy on the MS67 grade on these early 50's quarters and loosing the 66* is not worth it.

Seth, I have a 57 Mint set and the packaging causes that type of pattern and coloring. Its a combination of the cardboard (sulphur content) and the waxy pink flap that covers the coin, plus mother nature (humidity). Some of them just go radical like this one.

outstanding coin! my vote is leave it in the 66* holder, the white background shows off the color and the coin will sell itself if/when that time comes.

    Morris,

Very nice, and in this instance, the only benefit of the holder is to authenticate toning. Either service can do that, and when you are prepared to sell, it will be the coin that sells, not the holder anyway, although I prefer a NGC * to a PC 66. JMO Congrats on the find.image

Is this not a TELETRADE coin?? Thought I saw this in a recent auction (Rainbow?).

If the coin looks that nice at most angles the holder will make no difference in price. Pretty. K

    Russ, Baley,

Awsome coins! I've not seen them like that...

    Russ,

    Is that a proof?

    Ursabear,

Yep, it's a PR67. It forced my wallet open at the last show I attended.

Whoof... It is a nice coin. I was having trouble telling if it was Prf or PL, because of the eagle's breast.

    I don't think I've seen a nicer colored proof eagle-back.

So you were taking offers and are spiting (spite-ing) those who made them, just because someone said this was a thread to peddle the coin? I dont get it.

Either you were taking offers or you werent.. which is it?

BTW - I am interested in tougher date MS67 clad quarters if you have any. Similar to the 84-D you recently sold here on the boards.

Like I said before, I was thinking of selling it, she just made up my mind for me. I wouldn't need to use this forum to sell this coin, the four or five people that would pay the big bucks, I could call in two seconds.

C'mon Morris, you troll the coin on this Forum looking for offers, have the act called for what it is and NOW you decide to do the honorable thing?? You are soooooo transparent with your not-so-well-hidden attempts to sell coins on this Forum. You know you had absolutely no intention of keeping that coin and hoped to sell it with this thread.

Next time do the honorable thing to begin with. Place the coin for sale on the BS&T. You're not fooling anyone anymore.

Unless it's just the pic, rev at 1:00 looks like a bite was taken out of the rim. Black spots look unattractive.

Oh, by the way, I think I will heed the majority of the recommendations and keep it in the 66* holder. I think it is a great coin to hold on to. 1955 coinage with this kind of color is very, very scarce...typically it is blue, black, brown, purple kindof colors.

Hey, Dtroll, since you have your crystal ball out, can you tell us who is going to win the Cup.

    morris <><

I sure hope it is the Ducks, that way when people ask me where I live, I can tell them, oh the home of the World Champion Anaheim Angels and Mighty Ducks, instead of...having to say..."oh, you know where Disneyland is."

Good choice Morris!!! This way no one has to get bent out of shape. However, what is that rim nick at 1:00 as STMAN pointed out? From the scan, the rim nick looks huge. Could you elaborate?

And if the rim nick is as "deep" as it appears, I am surprised it is a 66.

    WWQ

PS. (OT) Morris.. the way the Devils shut down the Ducks last night, I would be hard pressed to see anything positive for the Ducks. The Devils are a far superior defensive team, and your goalie, who has stood on his head better than I have seen anyone, has collapsed. The first 2 goals were purely his fault. I didnt see the third one because I shut it off. It was over. Could be a quick series win for the East Coasters!!

WWQ, the "nick" I assume you are referring to is on the reverse picture? Correct? If so, it is not a nick, but part of the inner holder that NGC uses, I see this sometime on both NGC and PCGS coins. With PCGS though the inner circle is nearly clear, so you don't see it sometimes. The only nick on the coin is smack dab on the upper cheek, other wise this is a solid 67 coin. Still deserves a 67, being a solid 66+ coin, with the bump for color.

Yes, I do agree with you in part on the Ducks, although I will add that I think they are just rusty as ten days off can cause some problems...lets' not forget those Mighty Ducks swept the Wings and dominated the Stars, the two supposed best teams in hockey. I think Giggy had a great game, especially when you consider Brodeur only had to stop 8 shots the first two periods. The rest of the ducks imho were really to blame for this lopsided game.
