Gold cleaning?

I have a modern Gold American Eagle that has what looks to be a fingerprint starting to show up on the reverse. At first I thought it was some toning but now it's taking the form of a finger print. Not mine as I purchased it in an airtight and that's where it remains...Can this be removed without damage to the coin?

<< <i>Because gold is a noble metal, it is unlikely to become discoloured. Wash carefully in warm, even boiling, soapy water (detergent is also OK). You may even brush it gently with a soft brush. Be careful, if there is any grit present it will make minute scratches on the surface. >>
(I'd avoid the brush part!
Another site about Cleaning Gold Coins explains

I think the last part about '... consult a professional for advice... ' should be heeded.
