Isn't the 1955 Doubled Die Cent just one of the COOLEST coins?

The Doubling is so amazing and dramatic.

The way they were released.....as change in a cigarette vending machines.

The rarity in Gem Unc.

The fact that some people found them in circulation.

Hey....it's just a penny, too.

Same here. Most doubling does nothing for me, but I love the '55 Lincoln. It also happens to be my birth year so, someday, sometime...

when i started collecting in 1964 there were three coins that truly transfixed me----the 1913 Liberty Nickel, 3-legged Buffalo and the 1955 Doubled-Die Lincoln. it was quite some time before i actually saw and held one, but to be able to see that doubling plain as day with the naked eye still amazes me, especially considering that my sight isn't what it used to be. there was a dealer at a 30 table show last Sunday who had 3 slabbed examples, one XF and a pair of AU's. sweet coins all.

Yeah, I think they finally figured out how to make sure all the coins will hammer within the range of the estimate!

Yep.....took me awhile before i found an example i really liked, but i finally bought a PCGS MS64RB that was about 85% red. Just couldn't justify the higher price of a full red when for less than half the money i got one maybe 5% less red overall.

This coin error is really cool, as some of you have already mentioned. Now if i can only find a nice toned AU58 to MS63 1942/41 mercury to add to my set!

BTW.....my '55 Double Die is a double error........PCGS sent it out rotated in the holder about 45%!
