    Questions as I see it:

    1) Will storage in air tights stop tonning?
    2) Do toned coins effect the grade?
    3) Fair price

    Answer:

    1) Do not know. Would be good to hear from others
    2) See #1

I have a complete set of BU SAE's in a Dansco album. You have to watch where you get these coins as you may be aware that most BU coins have been picked over and the better ones have been submitted for grading. I have bought some from members on this forum and have had no problem. As for the toning issue mine have not been affected yet, I have a state quarter Dansco album and the quarters have a nice golden hue. I have seen sets from $150 to $200 if you are looking for the whole set but thats on EBAY and some dealers in Coin World.

    Good Luck

I am not that sure about the affect of an airtite on SAE. My prrof set is in airtites directly from the mint and I have no toning.
As for toning and price nicely toned SAE's are going for a premium right now.
As for the grading, I have heard that nice toning can get you a better grade as long as its not AT.

    Hi,
I also like the ASE's. And I have a complete set of uncirculated ASE that I put in Intercept Shield 2x2's. So far, no toning, and hopefully none for a long time. Personally, I do not like toning on my coins. But some people do, and if it is attractive, it can bring higher $. Be careful about toned ASE for recent years. Espeically on eBay. I just don't see how a newer, say 2001 or 2002, can be that toned already. These are probably AT. I have also just started a set of Proof ASE. These, I am leaving just in the airtite that it comes in. I won't want to open the Proofs, and start messing around trying to put them in another holder.

I keep my raw BU set in a Dansco type album and I think given the modest value of the coins, most people would agree that a quality album is adequate protection for these coins. Airtites are O.K. but doesn't make for as nice of a 'presentation package'. A quality album will not only protect your coins but provided an impressive way to display your collection to friends. If you have access to a coin show, please take advantage and pick your Eagles out personally. These coins are so large and have such large open fields that even very small marks can be distracting and difficult to pick up from auction scans. If you are not familiar with proper coin handling techniques, brush up on that point before you start grabbing your coins. Once their safely in the album its better to leave them there since they can be safely veiwed without taking them out. Keep them away from your mouth (moisture in breath) since the general rule is that any toning from improper handling is going to be a negative for the coin. These are nice coins to start with since its still a fairly short series, their large, impressive coins and they won't make you broke putting the set together. Good luck!

I started with the SAEs -

Like Bigern said if you'd like a high grade set buy them from your dealer. These are especially prone to "milk spots" created at the mint, are part of the coin and are not removable. Some will also be dinged from handling. If you ever dropped one of these heavy suckers onto another SAE it will leave a good reedmark. From my experience on Ebay, this is mainly what you'll get. It'll cost about the same from a dealer when you consider shipping and you'll be much happier with your set.

If you like the proofs, try to get them with the original packaging. I couldn't care less about this but if you ever want to sell them you'll take a hit without it.

I have a detailed spreadsheet showing UNC and Proof mintages, values, calculated values, and a variable table that allows you to track Ebay prices vs. appropriate values. If you drop me your e-mail I'll send it to you.
