Rusted die strikes on Morgans

A reverse MS morgan has only the eagle effected with what seller described as rusted die. Do you think this would hurt the value of the coin to the grading companies? I have only encountered one, is this common. I will post a pic soon on this. Thank you.

Hail the gift of memory in this fifty-second state. Who sold me down the river and shafts me while he waits. Outside the gates of Eden, star spangled and so late.

  • What year is it? I'll look it up in the VAM book and see if it is a recognized variety. For example 1897 VAM 1A/6A is a pitted die reverse. The description says "The wreath to the left of the ribbon and the areas around it show dramatic pitting." Sometimes a VAM variety is worth more than a common Morgan, instead of less.

Let us know what date and mint it is and we can look it up. A common date for reverse die pitting is 1888-O, and also 1883-84.

I have seen many 1883 p dollars in ms66-67 with pits on the obverse...so PCGS doesn't mind them..
I am looking for a 67 without any pitting image
