Hey, I can't have all the toned Peace $, but I am trying.

Looks nice and real to me. But I don't think it's envelope toning, alone. There seems to be some rim toning as well as envelope toning. Purples are hard to find on Peaces, the gold makes me think its all original though.

If I had to guess a grade I'd say its a MS63 PCGS, but probably a MS64 or 65 PCI.

Real nice coin Russ, can't believe I missed that one image but my collection of toned Peaces is starting to get like your collection of AH Kennedys.

Are you going to send it off to PCGS?

The splotches of purple kind of bother me on this coin. If they are not of the florescent nature than it's probably fine. But if I remember right Lori's Sac dollar she said was slabbed by pcgs. I don't agree with it but who am I?image

Frattlaw- C'mon PCI's grading standards aren't that loose.

    PCI MS-62

The coin is in a PCI MS-62 holder. Hopefully, Russ will "liberate" the coin and place it in another holder. Gotta' tell you, those colors would look better contrasted with the white insert from NGC.

    Michael,

Do you really think that coin is an MS63? I'll be the first to admit that I don't know squat about Peace Dollars, but to me it looks like it's barely an MS60. It has an awful lot of nicks and dings on it. Is that much allowed at that grade?

Of course, the two Morgans PCGS graded on one of my submissions both came back higher than I thought they would. Maybe I'm just too used to looking at proof surfaces.

So I guess I'm the only naysayer on this one. But I wouldn't be surprised if pcgs slabs it. I'm sure NGC would, which doesn't mean much to me, be curious what happens on this one.

I don't think you will ever see that Peace in a PCGS slab and 62/63 is about right.

    Dog,

I can say with absolute certainty that I won't see it in a PCGS slab. It would have to be submitted to them for that possibility to exist.

Interesting that you post these coins that everybody says are AT then you post them later in a NGC slab.
I basically said it was AT because I have one similiar to it, matter of fact it is @ PCGS right now, that the experts like coinguy1, gsaguy & frattlaw agreed was AT. I also agreed.

    morganbarber,

Common date and baggy. Yep, no question about that. Even I see it. You'll note that above I said I thought it was barely an MS60. Ugly is one of those things that resides in the eye of the beholder.

But, AT'd? Two different grading services have passed judgement on the coin and both decided it was the real deal.

Russ it ain't that ugly! I think its better than a 60. I have a hopefully xf/au high releaf at pcgs now waiting for a grade and slab

That is not the truth. It means that they consider the coin market acceptable, the fact that they graded the coin does not mean 100% that this coin is not AT. Quite a common misperception regarding third party grading.

Still don't feel it's original. But you know the game now Russ. Send the question coins to a certain service and the other ones to another. Nothing wrong with that I guess.

HMM...I don't know about that. On the same submission NGC bodybagged a coin for AT that had been formerly holdered by ANACS as an MS63.

How many services does a coin have to be submitted to in order to be sure? Two? Three? All of them? Or, is PCGS the only service that always gets it right?

Nope I don't think Pcgs always gets it right. But come on, I said nothing really wrong with sending ? coins to the service of choice. The service of choice also graded this one. And gave it the coveted star to boot.

Edit to add disclaimer.... I no longer own this coin but it was fun owning it to study and give the evil eye to.

    It's a bunch of BS and I don't mean bluesheet.imageimageimageimageimageimageimage

One must realize that when playing with borderliner AT market acceptable coins they can go either way at any of the big 3 grading services. To be "astute" as sincerely micheal says you must know where each service draws the line because they do have different standards of acceptability.
You guys know that and I don't know why wearing my fingers out typing it.
