Who put the thumbprints on all of the Franklins?!?!?

I am getting irked! I see way too many MS65 FBL Franklins with massive, gnarly thumbprints on the obverse. More than any other series! These prints are so LOUD I feel I should duck when I open a pic with one in it. Is one nefarious individual responsible? Is it a conspiracy? Has anyone else noticed this?

Way too many thumbprints....too many thumbprints.....too many thumbprints.....imageimage

I do see a lot of Franklins with prints, but most look old. mdwoods

How do you think they got in the cardboard mint holders. One good press with a thumb!image
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • Lucy those prints are the mark of a meathook, not the delicate mark of a lady! It can't be you! Although you may be covering for someone...hmmmm
  • I would think the prints would help their appearance....image

I've always guessed it was a combination of Mint employees, and collectors, pushing the coins into the cardboard holders. It is unfortunate, but sometimes if the color is nice enough, and the print isnt too distracting, I'll get one.
I actually had a major market maker try to persuade me to not return a horribly fingerprinted coin once. he said "thats fingerprint toning, a lot of collectors find that highly desireable" So I guess he figured, if you can;t fix it, feature it. He really must have thought I was a yayhoo. I of course sent it back, and have not done any further business with him.
Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground.
  • Highly desireable fingerprint toning LOL!!!!

    Look...there goes one now...
