Cleaned Vs. Circulated

I picked up a 1926-S Peace dollar today which I would grade AU50... which looks that it might have been cleaned at one time. I thought I was missing the 26-S but it turned out that I actually had a filler in my collection that graded approximately a Fine-12.

Originally, I figured using the AU50 as the "filler" but since it might have been cleaned at one time, I don't want to tarnish

my collection with a coin that has been possibly been cleaned.... but it is an upgrade to the F-12 coin... What would you do if you faced my dilemna?

I'd pick the one I liked the look of the best. May sound too simplistic but that is the way I go about it.

If you don't want to "tarnish" your collection with a coin that may have been cleaned maybe you should only collect slabbed mint state coins. I'm not trying to be a smarta$$, but how can anyone tell for sure that a coin in approx. F-12 condition has never been cleaned ? I'd keep the one that looked the best to ME. What a dilemna, I mean predicament.

26s is not too expensive. I actually have 2 of them, one in AU58 and one toned one in AU55. Although I'm not sure I agree with either grade. If you're interested in seeing them, let me know.

take the cleaned 1.
