ANACS to PCGS ?

I have an ANACS 1943-D MS-67 Lincoln that I bought some years ago. As I've read that ANACS is somewhat more conservative than PCGS, is it worth sending to PCGS in hopes of an upgrade?

Thanks,

Marty has been having good luck crossing Morgans lately, BUT the copper guys have been having terrible luck. The general feeling from them is that it's nearly impossible to get an MS67 Lincoln out of PCGS right now.

  • Hello, Bob --

I think it's worth a try. I've had mixed results. A gold coin of mine was upgraded a point from ANACS to PCGS, while an Indian cent was downgraded a point. My Franklin half crossed at the same grade.

    Give it a try!

  • I'll be keen to hear the crossover folks respond to this one. I've been hearing a lot of folks say that ANACS has been very tough lately. What's been others' experiences?

I've got about 40 coins with them right now and am checking the mailbox every day.
    Go well.
  • For the sake of argument, I will assume that the reason you are after a higher grade on your slab is because you are planning to sell the coin? Correct me if I am wrong. Otherwise I don't see the point in submitting to a different service. If you purchased the coin and are happy with it, what does it matter what integer is stamped on the paper that resides inside two pieces of plastic? I happen to be one of those that believe ANACS to be a conservative grading party which is why I purchase only ANACS slabbed coins. Not that I don't also purchase raw coins mind you. image Its just been my experience that you are in for far fewer surprises if you purchase an ANACS slabbed coin versus any other third party services slab. I think I wandered off topic here. Anyway, the choice is yours, but as I stated above, I don't see the reason, unless you plan on selling this coin in the near future. And if that is the case, consider the costs involved. You already paid xx to purchase the coin, tack on another xx for crossover (assuming it crosses) and do the math. Can you resell it without a taking a loss? If not, than submitting for the purpose of resale doesnt make sense either.

I have 2 Lincolns in an ANACS MS67RD, both have RPM's and are on E-Bay. If they don't sell I might try to cross them to PCGS. Yes, I have had good luck with Morgans, running about 2 upgrades for every 1 downgrade.
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

Chiefbob is correct, ANACS is more conservative on copper, that has also been my experience.

This isn't copper folks... it's steel... I think 67s are a little easier to get with steel.

With Lincoln cents in general, My experience has been that ANACS is more conservative than NGC and is
about the same as PCGS. In most cases. Early copper is about the same in my experience.

  • Perhaps it'll cross as MS-67RD.image
The strangest things seem suddenly routine.
  • That would be one heck of a gamble cosidering what Ive seen in ANACS holders, as a matter of fact, I looked at a Washington Carver ANACS MS64 yesterday that might make it in a PCGS MS63 slab! I bought the coin because the price was right, I will post the results when I get them! ANACS stills owes me money for the fake 1909 S IHC they slabbed, too bad they dont have a quarantee, they were speechless when confronted! I also bought a Stone Mountain and a San Diego that I think are both 65.

Have you ever used ANACS? THEY ARE SLOWER THAN MOLLASSES!

I've crossed once from ANACS to PCGS. A 1932D Washington Quarter in AU58.

I'll just play the odds here and say that the coin will come back MS67 from PCGS. If that is the case then you have just spent grading fees and shipping fees on an approximately $40 coin. Doesn't sound like a good investment to me.

  • That's a bummer!!! I hate molasses. I'll send out a post when the coins get here. Next year is a long time...I'd be pretty disappointed.
    Go well.

I sent them two Mercury dimes. One--MS64FB went MS65FB. Two MS63FB went MS63FB.
