Guess the grades

These might be getting sent in soon and i'm wondering what grade you think they will get

Well, I'll guess MS-64 for the $20. That line at the waist I think would keep it out of 65, but if the coin looks as nice as it appears, may end up in 65 because of eye appeal. But I'll stick with 64.

The other looks like it has just a tiny bit of wear in the fields, so I'll say AU 58.

$20 1928 AU-58. Rub on the chest and leg.
20¢ 1876 BB'd...cleaned. Otherwise AU55

Gold is very soft and double eagles are very heavy, MS-65

Doubledime: BB'd for cleaning, AU-55 for wear.

A light amount of rub is always allowed for gold coins because of how they were handled. As long as that friction is only on the high points and is consistent with roll friction. Thus spake the PCGS grading guide. I'm sticking with my MS-64+ grade for the $20.

I don't know if you won these arn't my coins and they are raw. The owner is sending them to PCGS soon when he gets the results i'll post them or i'll have him join here and post them himself.

Nice coins by the way, but I think

PCGS will give the $20 a 63 because of the contact on the OBV in prime area's

The 20 center looks AU-55 to me?

The St. Gauden was graded as MS-63 by the dealer. The 20 cent piece was graded as AU-55. I'm curious why those who said it looked like it had been cleaned say that? As was said, I'm considering submitting these coins to PCGS, and if they're obviously cleaned I won't bother. If it's debatable whether it's been cleaned or not, I'm more inclined to submit it to find out PCGS's opinion...

submit the $20 Saint. It is a looks attractive and has nice color. I would think MS64 is appropriate.

The 20 cents is a really tough call. It looks as if it may have been cleaned, but there still seems to be signs of some originality in the reverse letters. If the coin had been dipped, it is more likely that the reverse letters would not have the look they do. From the photo/scan, the fields of the coin seems to be somewhat flat and the lustre does not show. Its possible the coin could be BB, but I think there is enough of question to get slabbed. The grade will probably not be MS, but AU55 or 58. Good luck...

Yeah, I've been thinking of submitting some of my raw coins for grading. Partly to preserve them, but also partly to see how my dealer's gradings stack up. I'd definitely like to know if my 20 center has been cleaned or not, and if it hasn't, it would be a nice coin to see slabbed.

MS 64 for the Saint
twenty looks cleaned and is high End AU to MS62

In this case the opinions from the late night crowd are pretty consistent. The Saint is a solid MS64 with a usual share of marks. The LS20C is dull and lifeless. It clearly has been overdipped. I would give it a AU55 but it would not please my tastes.
