Greg Morris Consignments for Graded Cards

I've been thinking of consigning a few partial sets of PSA graded 1970s Topps baseball cards I will never finish and was wondering if anyone here has used Greg Morris for that purpose and how you fared. I know they are very popular with strong prices realized for raw cards but I haven't heard too many testimonials for graded cards. For starters, I have a partial set of about 120 1973 Topps baseball cards, all commons for the most part and all graded PSA 8 and PSA 9 including about 20 high numbers. I see in their terms they only accept consignments with an estimated value of approximately 5K or higher. I am also wondering if their consignment rates are based on the sale price of each card or if the rate is cumulative for the partial set break as their rates are less competitive for items priced under $100. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.

The benefit of using them for graded really stands out at the higher pricing levels. I've been pleased with the process of consigning my graded cards with them in the recent years. You could contact them and attempt to negotiate if you have something substantial to discuss.

I haven’t sent them graded in awhile because you can’t get anything graded but when I did, you get good results, maybe a clunker now and then but more have done much better than worse. As for raw, I send them around 1000 a month and do extremely well, again every now and then a dud but I got $46 for a 1976 Don Carrithers once

This gave me a chuckle. I had been sending GMC raw 1976 Topps baseball cards, only perfectly centered commons and a few stars, and through maybe about 3 or 4 orders they got accepted and sold. Last time around, they only took a handful of the best cards, but rejected most of the commons despite their mint presentation. I think they have too many. :D

How strict are they on the 5K minimum for consignment lots? Is it based on VCP?

I did well 6 months ago with 1976s there but they asked me to curtail that year for awhile so I have unless it’s a star

I rarely have had one go under 5K maybe once or twice in 2 yrs. I would call and ask for Drew. He will speak with you

Those graded consignment rates are negotiable too, but volume is the driver. I had great experiences, but was moving a bunch of raw too.

Now I have an explanation. It goes in cycles and someday later they will be acceptable again.

Already jumped the shark on that issue. Moved a lot of good stuff. New cycle coming soon. ;)

I had a 74 Fahey sell for $18 raw this week. A 79 Winfield for like $144. 2-1957 Dodgers Sluggers cards that were really sharp but both where 98-2 top to bottom go for $111 and $77, the $77 was the better of the two. Always happy.

I kind of figured there would be a wait, but had no idea it would be that kind of wait. There are always alternatives, I guess.

I have multiple NM-Mint set runs in all 4 sports from 1969-1979 (basketball to 1988). Hypothetically speaking, if I wanted to send in basketball now, would I have any say on what time of year I wanted them to run or would they just run them whenever they get to it?

Um.....you may be misinterpreting the negativity of the post to which you've responded. He meant the 2027 baseball season potentially being cancelled.

When you send in cards to GMC they will be received by their consignment dept. and documented for upcoming auctions. You will be assigned a portal which you can view to watch the action with your cards. Typically, they ask for around a 2 to 3 week waiting period for processing before your cards get released into the wild. For me, it has been a whirlwind, as I've been sending stuff in regularly for the past couple years, so my cards will be up for auction within about a week or so after drop-off. The other angle is if they need something specific to fit in to a night's worth of auctions, which can be upwards of 3,000 cards, they will process your cards ASAP. For example, if you send in a really nice NM-MINT end-to-end complete set from any of your 4-sport collection, it will definitely get the appropriate quick attention.

I think those of us with a pedigree from this place have gotten old, crusty and downright irascible as a snake caught in a jar. :D

Oh, gotcha. I just figured they were backlogged like PSA. Great info, by the way! One question I have always been curious about. I noticed they are 75% on vintage raw, and they charge a fee on top of that per card I am guessing? But I did notice it was mentioned that they do negotiate rates as well. Any ideas on what kind of rates someone might get if they put up mid figures/six figure consignment? Will they waive the per-card fee?

I suggest you contact them to request a copy of the contractual agreement so you can read the details. Yes, there are ways to reduce costs depending on volume and also the add-on per card fees apply only to raw cards which sell for less than $10, the fee being an additional 50 cents, which could also be waived depending on the size and results/average hammer price of an order.
