The credit goes to Len Augsberger, who allowed me to edit and paraphrase the event for use in a book I was writing. (I don't know why some of the formatting is goofy....must be because today is election day.

Oh, my! This thread is nearly 20 years old. BTW, I have had recent contact with Longacre. He is a prodigious seller of bric-a-brac to the hoi polloi on Facebook Marketplace.

Hey, the economy is bad and I had to go from sipping the finest amontillado as Consuela fluffed up my best furry slippers, to selling graphic tees on Marketplace. Please send your very own Longacre any extra quarter eagles that are not needed to help the cause. I will be back in another 20 years.

Great to be back. RYK found me on The Book, so it was nice to rekindle the connection. I need to check out some of my old posts. It was quite a body of work that I put together and it is nice to see some familar names.

How do we know that this is the authentic Longacre™ and not some fancy AI agent deployed to answer for him?

Good point. 20 years ago when this post was produced, you were assured it was your very own Longacre. Today, I am not not so sure.

That was a great read. Tragic about young Henry Grob, penicillin probably would have saved him, but it wasn't mass produced until the early 1940s.
