Value service is open again!

I just received the email this morning that value service is open for submissions again. I quickly packaged and shipped out my next vintage 10 card submission. Hopefully it will get logged in before they close down the service. Anybody else submitting?

is the bare minimum to get a card graded truly 40 bucks now

and it takes what, 3/4 of a year to get it back ?

and the grade range is broader than ever ?

Creo que preferiría comerme mi dinero.

PSA must live an absolute surreal life. an inverse relationship between the quality of service and the amount of money they print. dream gig if you can get it.

I have a horde of Pokemon cards from way back when just sitting here in a box. Does anybody think that if I send if a sub of only Pokemon cards, they would receive better attention because they're Pokemon cards? If I slipped a sports related card in with them would it taint my order? Is it ok to taint? That's my dilemma. Is it OKAY to taint?

I'd assume Professional Sports Authenticators doesn't so much want to see your Pokemon. I thought Pokemon was the problem. Maybe someone should open Professional Pokemon Authenticators.

why is it interesting to think about the law of diminishing returns here? I thought I understood what that meant, but unless you're making a dad joke about literal returns diminishing I am too stupid to get it.

LOL $39.99 is value? Isn’t the max value $500? I could be wrong. If not, they get 8% at a minimum to miss grade your items and it takes at least 6 months to get them back. $39.99 should be for 20 day service. Like a few said early, grading has left the building.

When you can’t get your Geoff Jenkins rookies graded for less than $39.99 it’s time to get busy living.

I agree with most of the comments here with why people are bailing on this service. For me personally, I am submitting raw auto cards for my collection. I know the fees aren't as cheap as we would like them to be, and realistically we may never see cheap prices again. I figured that the cost of grading/shipping is about the same as if I were to buy these cards already graded on eBay. If I'm lucky because usually, I get outbid on the auctions, or they are super expensive buy it nows. Everything has gotten so damn expensive. The only thing I don't like is the 9 months wait. But I'm in no hurry. Like I already mentioned, they are going into my collection and not for resale anytime in the near future.

You can buy a really nice card for your collection for the price of grading a handful of cards at this price. 40 dollars a pop adds up real quick.

Something each of us should remember, because it is such a memory: There's an element to sending in cards for grading that yields pleasure in the finished product, particularly when it meets or exceeds expectations. Never mind the cost. It's a thrill for some people to do it all independently so they can then be able to simply say "I did this."

No one else's submission, just your own card in your own holder. I'm sure there's plenty of collectors who do it this way.

Nice card. I would send it to PSA, unless you can buy a similar one for cheaper or equal to the cost of grading/shipping on eBay. That way you can avoid the 9 months wait.

By the time you ad in shipping and insurance both ways you are looking at probably $50 per card. The days of getting nice condition vintage commons graded for your set are over.

We all saw this coming several years ago. They (PSA) effectively killed the registry. Who can spend that kind of money for a card ($50) for a common?
Especially with the uncertainty of the grading standard?

Romanticism is a funny thing. That girl you knew when you were teens was quite a sight, hmmm? She had all the characteristics you found enticing and you couldn't stop thinking about her. Your life revolved around her every thought. What she wanted. What she needed. She was irrefutable. Then, she started to change. Got older. More demanding. Not so attractive like you felt she was upon first glance. She developed a strong urge to increase her presence in the world, and it didn't include you. There's plenty of others who will gladly bow at her feet because they think she's still the sh!t but, you know the truth because you knew her when.....

Nope. I'm done with them. If I like a graded card, I'll buy it but I'm more than happy putting together nmmt raw vintage sets. They don't need my money and I don't need to contribute to a company who treats their customers like garbage.

Then Why are u in a PSA forum ? Lol

If SGC stays at $50 the doors will be closed within a year. Cheaper to grade at PSA will kill them.

The main reasons to use SGC were; Price, TATs, and consistant grading based on their published standards. All those reason are now gone.

Sad how CU destroyed a solid American company like SGC

The goal has always been to close the door on SGC and BGS. CU raised the prices with all three grading services and then lowered PSA (still much higher than before), with the intent that people would now view PSA as the new low-cost option and all their SGC/BGS clients would now migrate over to PSA permanently. It's a simple marketing ploy that has been used over and over.

Wouldn't PSA graded commons now go up in price. Just saying they would be carried along with the grade to a higher level now. Of course, there's a chance you're taking.

They logged my order this week after only one business day in hand. Was as surprised at that as the April 27 date for return. Still, nice to see the cards logged quickly, that was always the biggest gap for me, not knowing if they actually had the cards in hand.

And imagine all the cross-over revenue when those companies cease operations. SGC graded 1.5M cards alone last year, the conversion TAM with SGC alone would be what, 300M?

This has to be 100% what the plan was. Buy up the biggest competition, corner 75-90% of the market, raise prices across the board on all 3 and then turn around, drop prices at PSA and then wait while the other two wither and die.

That effectively kills all your competition and creates a new market for cross overs. Then the company also doesn't have to worry so much if there is a TCM bubble and people stop sending in as many of those. You've created an entire new market out of thin air.

It is actually a brilliant business strategy (as long as new grading companies don't come along and start stealing market share).

Not sure on your "ideas" that PSA doesn't want SGC or BGS to succeed... THINK for a SECOND PSA NOW GETS ALL THE PROFITS from both companies WITHOUT doing the work...ALL THE PROFITS...Is this not a good deal? Why spend all that money buying the companies just to shut them down and take on MORE work for same profits...I don't know about you guys but I don't like to take on more work for the same profits...Just received an SGC order last week and there was a glossy flyer indicating they are making significant expansions on there operations to reduce the TAT's...HMMMM

It seems like a consolidate the brand and expand the operations through acquisition.

Why spend all that money buying the companies just to shut them down... I would put these into the "buy the scarce asset" category. Whether grading is a low barrier is more difficult to say as the grading itself is not objective. It's an interesting market to attempt to rationalize for sure.

Isn't it more likely that graded commons would drop in price if it becomes unlikely anyone will be completing registry sets or if the registry dies?

Why is everyone looking for an excuse to make this stuff more expensive? The entire reason this is happening is because people are valuing slabbed cards too highly. If PSA thought they were kicking you in the nuts at 10-15 bucks they wouldn't raise the price. But they see everyone selling slabbed cards at huge multiples of what raw cards are selling for and start to think they're shot is off target.

I think CU is NOW a HOLDING company... i.e it buys smaller companies to hold for profits or to try and improve operations or sometimes rationalize them by scaling back... do a little research on holding companies and then some light will be shed as to what the top 5 leaders of CU MIGHT be doing??. For example... YUM BRANDS owns taco bell, arby's , KFC and until recently Pizza Hut.. They sold pizza hut for a tidy profit it seems after 15 years of holding on to the brand...something to think about for you guys and as I said SGC is sending out glossy flyers indicating they sorry for long TATs and ARE expanding their operations with significant building space...
