1967 Jefferson CUD - CU-5c-1967-03 (and a very early die stage)

This appears to be a CU-5c-1967-03 CUD. In same roll I found another that appears to be a very early die stage of the same cud.

Nice find! It looks like that roll was made from coins struck right when the die broke.

Too bad it was a roll and not a bag. I’ve heard of collectors who found the missing piece of die as well, either loose or struck into a coin in a bag.

I have several coins with pre-cud die cracks and the matching coin with the cud (not this particular cud). A great matching pair to have. My suggestion is to have them slabbed and labeled Coin #1 of 2 and Coin #2 of 2. I think PCGS can even put them in a two coin slab.

    Congratulations on the great find!!

    Cool.

These can progress pretty rapidly. In my experience coins from the same die pair in a roll rarely exceed being more than a few thousand strikes apart.

It's a shame there were only two in the roll. Sometimes you can find a die characteristic and use it to find one that is unaffected.
