Beautiful Barber for sale

I do believe this is the most lovely business strike Barber dime I have ever seen in over 50 years as a collector.
1909-D, with a mintage of only 954,00, is one of the "Big 4" (according to David Lawrence) late in the series.
Someone here other than me buys it, it's okay as it is out of my pay grade. ![]()

Here's the TruView of this 1909-D...

I owned this date in choice uncirculated condition a few years back. A favorite date with me. I noticed a few years ago that one of the top registry sets was missing this date. Pop is 4 with 1 higher.

It all comes down to priorities. Some people buy beautiful Barber dimes; others buy tickets to the Captain & Tennille Tribute Band.
It's a lot easier to save up for the aforementioned ticket than it is for the lovely Barber dime featured in this thread.

Beautiful coin with a fair bit of marketing puffery, in my opinion, but in this grade it is no doubt quite unusual to find.

She’s a beauty. I looked up the coin in the PCGS coin facts and saw four with different cert numbers meaning this would actually be #5….but a bit of ‘hmmmmmm, what’s going on here?’ revealed one coin in the previous auction listings is actually a 1909 O…..and not a D….so the POP of 4 seems correct. 😉
The one higher must be a 67? This one is 66+ with a green bean. If one purchased this piece and was going for higher level should one go for gold bean first or higher PCGS grade (possible 67)? I wouldn't try to do anything grade or beanwise if my coin but a collector who enjoys the competition of registry collecting might think differently about it. This 1909-D dime is a stunner for sure.
David Lawrence's "Big 4" late in the Barber dime series, interestingly enough, does not include the low mintage 1913-S (510K). The "Big 4" late in the series are 1908-O (1.789M), 1909-D (954K), 1909-S (1.00M), and 1910-S (1.24M).

@oih82w8:
Any thoughts about what to try on this 1909-D dime to achieve a higher status gradewise? I'm sure the top pop is a very nice piece but if the 1909-D dime featured here were your coin and you wanted to give the top pop a run for it's money would you make a try for a gold bean your first priority?
The coin could stay in it's current PCGS holder while JA gives consideration to a bean upgrade.
If this 1909-D has any weakness it might be in the bit of softness seen in the hair curls below LIBERTY?

@oih82w8:
No opinion on what you might attempt with this 1909-D to ultimately achieve a higher PCGS "grade status"? 66+, green bean means to me this coin might really be better called "MS 67."
Finest known 1909-D dime but sharing MS 67 grade with another piece is what I'm seeing.
Scoring a gold bean would be huge. Albanese may not be a huge fan of toning but he's got to know the toning on the piece is 100% natural and original. Bright dipping a coin like this would be a crime against humanity.

Ever since KC from the Sunshine Band threw out his back.
They are in a double bill with the Spanky and Our Gang Tribute Band (actually headlined by the granddaughter of Spanky's best friend's neighbor).
Trolling at it's finest. You get an image of what could easily be the finest known 1909-D dime with a troll show that is second to none. The peculiar cultlike trolling behavior seen with some members here is a phenomenon that was hardly ever seen in social media platforms, at least in my experience, in the early part of this century. Not a good thing, not a good look for the forum.
I would support posting suspension for buffoonery such as as seen here in this thread.
I once studied to be a teacher of mathematics, high school level. I failed in that endeavor and am glad I did. I would have really struggled as a teacher having buffoons in my class that aren't there to learn, to get some knowledge, only there to disrupt others with nonsense.
Why is it so hard for some to just stay out of my threads? Don't like what I write and try to share?

And speaking of bright dipping...
I was treated to seeing the Eliasberg 1893-O dime by the new owner/dealer when I encounter him at a show. He had bright-dipped the gorgeously toned 1893-O dime that Eliasberg acquired from someone who had obtained it directly from the mint in 1893. The dealer claimed that he would be able to get more money for it bright than if he left it alone.

Regarding dipping the 1893-O dime, perhaps this is akin to dipping the Norway 1893-S Morgan dollar.

Back to 1909-D dime...
I see an Ex D.L. Hansen 1909-D dime is for sale. Makes me wonder if Hansen now has an MS 67 graded piece. This one is a 66. It does have a great look but just a bit too dark for my taste.

To me the MS66 ex-DL Hansen is just too dull and brown at that price and grade level.

This "Sarasota" specimen at PCGS MS66+ CAC pop 4/1 seems especially pleasing.
Here are some others to compare.
Lily Nicole Specimen - PCGS MS67 pop 1/0
Bob Ray Simpson Specimen - PCGS MS66+ CAC pop 4/1
Another Specimen - PCGS MS66+ pop 4/1
Dell Loy Hansen Specimen - PCGS MS65 CAC
The Lily Nicole piece appears to me to be a slightly better strike than the Sarasota piece.
