My name is Kellen Hoard, and I currently serve as one of the Representatives of the General Public on the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee. For those of you unfamiliar with the CCAC, it was established in 2003 by Congress to advise the Secretary of the Treasury on the themes and designs of all US coins and medals. The CCAC serves as an informed, experienced and impartial resource to the Secretary of the Treasury and represents the interests of American citizens and collectors.
This is the sixteenth installment of my updates about what the CCAC is doing at its meetings. I think it is critical that the collecting community have insight into and input to the CCAC, and will try to answer any questions you may have.
Here is my update for the CCAC meeting on October 6, 2026.
- The first draft of the Fiscal Year 2026 CCAC Annual Report was considered. Some members found it wanting for detail on certain Committee activties (or lack thereof) relating to the Semiquincentennial program, and the item was tabled. The Acting Chair was charged with refining the language in the report prior to next meeting.
- Candidate designs for the American Innovation $1 coin for Nebraska (Center Pivot Irrigation) were considered in consultation with Breanna Wirth, Policy Advisor to Governor Jim Pillen, and Daryl Bohac, Director of the Nebraska Historical Society. The CCAC recommended the following reverse design:

- Candidate designs for the American Innovation $1 coin for Colorado (Pueblo Chile) were considered in consultation with Dr. Mike Bartolo, Vegetable Crop Specialist at Colorado State University and
inventor of the Mosco variety of the Pueblo Chile, and Dr. Rachael Storm, Curator of Business & Industry at History Colorado. The CCAC recommended the following reverse design:
- Candidate designs for the American Innovation $1 coin for North Dakota (Unmanned Aircraft Systems) were considered in consultation with Mike Kennedy, Governor’s Liaison and Deputy Communications Director in the
Office of the Governor of North Dakota, and Trevor Woods, Executive Director of the Northern Plains UAS Test Site. The CCAC recommended the following reverse design:
- Candidate designs for the American Innovation $1 coin for South Dakota (The Duprees – Saving the American Buffalo) were considered in consultation with Dr. Benjamin Jones, Governor’s Liaison, South Dakota State Historian, and Director of the South Dakota State Historical Society, and Dr. Ken Zontek, History Instructor at Yakima Valley College. The CCAC recommended the following reverse design:

- Candidate designs for the Aquaman Comic Art Coin and Medal were considered. The CCAC recommended the following obverse and reverse designs:

- Candidate designs for the Batgirl Comic Art Coin and Medal were considered. The CCAC recommended the following obverse and reverse designs, with a request that on the reverse the Mint take every possible step to declutter the design:

- Candidate designs for the The Flash Comic Art Coin and Medal were considered. The CCAC recommended the following obverse and reverse designs:

Let me know if you have any questions about the work done in this meeting; I will try to answer as well as I can, but there are contraints on what I am able to share publicly. Please remember that the CCAC does not make the final decision; instead, it makes its recommendation (alongside the Commission of Fine Arts) to the Secretary of the Treasury. If you would like to watch the October meeting in full in order to see the deliberations, you will need to contact the Mint; at this time, they are still not sharing video recordings of our meetings online anymore.

Thank you, Kellen.
Thank you for the write up and please, please, please don't allow jorts (jeans shorts) on our coins!
In honor of the memory of Cpl. Michael E. Thompson
Thanks for sharing.
Innovation series becomes more disappointing when states pick silly innovations like a chili pepper or things that are not even innovations like saving buffalo.

Thanks for sharing Kellen. The Flash obverse design could turn out great in proof format, depending on how it is rendered in relief.

Thank you for the report.
As a proud Coloradan, I weep at the choices given to you to choose from. We had the first commercial electrification project in America, a mine out by Telluride, second only to Edison’s demonstration deployment in Manhattan. The electrification of mines was a huge game changer.
Well, the reverse Catwoman does look like Julie Newmar. Well done there.
Folks in Colorado will be astonished and proud to know what a major contribution to civilization one of their own made. Something is afoot with the leadership in Colorado? Or perhaps as innocent as ignorance or laziness. Or they just don’t give a damn.

I think the South Dakota design is nice.
Please post these on the NGC Coin Forum also. Members there would love to read your commentary on the CCAC.
Wonderful seeing a post like this! Thank you!
Kellen! Thanks for making the time to attend the meetings. Thanks for sharing results of those meetings.
Hi Kellen,
Did you report earlier on the new sports related reverse designs to be used on quarters from 2027-2030, and the paralympic reverses to be used on Kennedy halves during those same years?
Yes - my Feb 2026 update.
