I sold a 1972 Willie Stargell October 8th. Also sold in 1972 Damon Buford on Facebook marketplace. I must’ve switched the cards and sent the wrong cards to the buyers. Now a month and a half later the customer who bought the Willie card emails me and tells me I sent him the Damon Buford. Well, I never heard from the buyer who received the Stargell card probably because he “ made out” getting the wrong card.
I assume the right thing to do is credit back Stargell buyer even though he took so long to contact me?? I just wish he would’ve contacted me immediately and I could’ve possibly contacted the other buyer.

that is a tough one for sure. you are correct with your first reaction. best course of action is to credit the guy who received the Buford. it hurts a little, but your reputation in the hobby is far more important.

Cuda i had this same thing happen to me a few months ago. i bought a cheapo Jordan Walker card in hopes of getting him to sign it at a Cards game, and the seller sent me a cheapo Nolan Arenado instead. and by cheapo i'm talking <5$. yet when i immediately brought it to the seller's attention, he feared for his life. i told him to rest easy. if i lit up his cred over an honest mistake -- and especially one of the handful of dollars variety -- then there would be a much bigger problem in play........the quality of my character. his response was impeccable, and that's what really stood out to me. he insisted that i allow him to fire off the card i intended to buy gratis, but under no circumstance was that going to happen. so we met in the middle and went halfsies on it + shipping. no harm, no foul.
eotd, faux pas happen. every single day by every single one of us. it's how you react to them that truly matters. my advice would be to contact them both and go from there. communication takes very little effort, and it's vital. neither one of those dudes seem to understand that, but you can only control what you can control. let them know that rectifying the situation by making them whole is of utmost importance to you. then it's up to them. wash your hands of it all. you can't force individuals to handle first-world problems properly.
Thanks for the responses. I reached out to the other buyer and have not heard back from him. So I will be refunding the guy who contacted me today.
We all have sent the wrong card. Its a painful lesson but all you can do is become OCD when you ship!
