Had a couple of these come in last week. The guy thought they were sterling but at first I figured 90% but they Sigma at .999. They are just a smidge over 40mm and right between 31.3 and 31.4 grams. I also first thought they were just regular silver round planchets but the bit of research I did suggests they would only be 39mm.
Not saying they are but does anyone here have any experience or knowledge about the ty 1 silver eagle blanks.
I still need to get calipers to get to the exact thickness. They appear just over 2mm thick.
Any help from you expert silversmiths would be appreciated!
Thanks!
Tim

I've never weighed silver eagles, but I would think their weight would be pretty accurate at 31.1.
    Just thinking out loud.....

Not an ASE Type 1 Blank, imo

Probably just a type one generic silver round

Measuring the thickness is academic if you know the weight and diameter and composition. They had better be just about 2.28 mm thick, whether or not you can measure that accurately.

Type 2 silver eagle planchets are common-ish. Type 1 blanks are rarer. Yours doesn't have the right look in my opinion but it's not like there's a lot to go on.

    Thanks for all the comments.
I guess what is throwing me off is the 40+ mm diameter.
I will be doing more precision measuring tomorrow so stay tuned!

So I thought I would have access to digital calipers today but didn't. With what I had available, they came to 40.3 mm diameter, 2.4mm thick and 31.3-31.4 grams each. The thickness would be a little too much for what the guidelines are but I'm going to try to get digital to be exact.
