JM BULLION HACKED?

BAJJERFANBAJJERFAN Posts: 31,692 ✭✭✭✭✭

Anyone recently get a letter from JM Bullion about a security incident between 04/12/2026, and 04/14/2026? The information that may be impacted includes your name in combination with financial account information. I don't recall ever buying bullion from them using a CC or debit card, but if it was check only would you be overly concerned? Nothing at this point to indicate anything fraudulent towards me. Also been a few years since I purchased anything from them.

No notice here but I also haven't purchased from JM in years. Just checked though, account is still active. Guess if you are concerned, I would probably contact them for additional info. RGDS!

Received the letter as well, don't remember when I bought from JM, had to have been 5+ years ago I'd think.

I've purchased from them in the distant past but didn't receive a notice. Maybe it was a select group of accounts and not their whole database.

You'd think it would be posted somewhere on their website.

    Caveat Emptor then.

It would probably be safe to assume that most businesses that accept payment have been hacked or are likely to be hacked/compromised. Heck, a medical place specializing in orthopedics that I visited a couple times was compromised. I did get $25 out of it tho.

The threat of hacking is that card will be used for unauthorized purchases by the hacker or whom ever he sells the card info to. Best to use the same card for ALL on-line purchases, never "save" the card info with a seller for future purchases with that seller, and constantly monitor that card for unauthorized purchases.

I had that happen once even tho I never saved the card with the seller. Got the card replaced and the charge dropped. Also I never pay at the pump for gas, ALWAYS inside. Since they now charge only for what you use, it's easy to just overpay if you want a full tank, and can afford to fill it

No letter here, but it's probably been 3+ years since I sold any metals to them.

How is that different than paying at the pump? I would think the scanner inside would be more likely to have a card skimmer on it. Or are you saying you go inside and intentionally overpay with cash, then go back inside for change after you pump?

I pay inside with a CC, never at the pump. Have yet to run into a skimmer by doing that. It's hard to guess at how much you need to fill, so I sometimes overpay knowing that I will be charged for only what I pump and don't have to go back in to get any overpayment put back on my card. I do that mostly when I'm going a long distance. $20 worth lasts me a long time around here. I can't remember the last time I paid cash for gasoline.

You don't leave a financial trail if you sell to them, only if you buy, unless you buy OTC with cash.

Most gas pumps these days offer the contactless payment. Have yet to see someone able to skim that (although I am sure the day is coming). Personally, I am much more concerned about the current cost of fuel at the pump than I am about having my CC skimmed. RGDS!
