Keep or remove dealer stickers from slabs?

Do you tend to remove stickers that dealers put on slabs, or leave them in place to indicate provenance?

I keep them. When I replace a coin its convenient to have the sticker in place when consigning to the same auction company.

If you keep your coins for a long time remove asap. They become next to impossible to remove down the road. They also damage holograms if applicable.

Seen the hologram damage already on slabs

Yes, and it affects the price people are willing to pay for the coin/holder. I know some think that is crazy but it is the way it is.

I remove them except the ones from Great Collections that have a QR code that brings up the picture of the coin.

Remove all. I could see putting aside auction stickers, but not keeping them on the slab.

I mean to remove them but tend not to get around to it.

I remove them. In most cases I don’t think the provenance matters and keeping the holder clean is more important.

If the seller sent an invoice and you tend to file those away, you can put the sticker on the invoice.

Remove them and any residue as soon as received. Any cost data has already been reflected in the GJ and a check mark (reflecting received) and any receipt attached in GJ. Generally a sticker with the cost code is added so sell price can be quoted (cost plus, etc.).

Do you use any particular product to remove glue residue?

The same PlastX that I use to polish the slabs seems to remove it well enough.

Superb collections are built more by omission than by addition.

Goo Gone is great for removing sticker residue in a variety of circumstances.

I keep them; I like the provenance. I know from my records where they came from, but I still like to keep them.

The original question refers to dealer stickers. Anyone leave those in place?$

A few are worth considering keeping. A Doug Winter sticker on gold can be useful, particularly if coin is without a bean.

If i collected colonials, I would leave a CRO sticker. Same for Angel Dee on buffalo nickels.

I always remove them, if it can be done gently. I don’t want the hologram or slab to be damaged down the road. I put them on the invoice. That way I can save them and still have the record.

No. No use for sources price stickers. Cost data reflected in gen journal (GJ). I do add a sticker in code on slab for my cost so easily quote cost plus markup to potential buyers. Markup factor may vary based on market conditions /marketing strategy, outlook.

Off they come. If possible, I stick them to the invoice that came with the purchase. I always appreciate it when a dealer uses stickers that peel right off easily. I hate it when the removal is time consuming and requires extreme care to avoid damaging the hologram. It's inconsiderate on the part of the dealer.

    This.

Any reason the TPG’s don’t put the hologram on the back side of the main insert so they are encased too? Would make removing unwanted stickers less hazardous…..

I only save a dealer's labels when its a cross reference to a better pedigree that i want to save, otherwise i don't save them.

I generally record price and provenance, then take the stickers off right away.

I prefer to remove the stickers from the slab. I hate seeing the damage some of them do to the hologram.

I remove. If I have a receipt, I generally stick them to the receipt, including auction stickers. If I buy at a show where I am set up and did not get a receipt, I stick them on my notation sheet, where I recorded the transaction. But I still have a number of old Teletrade purchases with their stickers on them.

Carefully get the sticker off ASAP!!!

But I think there's always a risk you might damage the slab & hologram -- especially if it's an old sticker.

    Which might hurt re-sale.

Which might actually be a good opportunity for a future buyer.

For example, I recently won this half dollar with obvious damage to the slab & hologram (probably from sticker removal).

    Immediately got it reholdered...

More imporant than the fresh slab, I'm very happy to have attribution, TruViews, and updated security features.

It's up to you but I would never use "ANY" chemical on a slab to remove a sticker. All you need is a hair dryer. It softens the glue and the sticker will come off with your fingers.
