They take a Yankees 2-run homer off the board for fan interference. Are you *ing kidding me?

Just cashed out at a loss for 48% equity. Enough is enough of MLB. Drives me batchit crazy, even when I hit a game, and that sure ain't been often.

Fortunately, for some inexplicable reason, I've been killing the WNBA. Played the Valkyries ML tonight with a boost. They've got a nice lead at the half, and if they can hold on, it will be a profitable night.

I don't recall if I posted this previously.

Immediately after the Super Bowl, Fanatics Sportsbook offered a 50% profit boost on next year's winner, max of $200 bet. I thought, why not, and threw $LXI on it. I don't check on it often, but apparently unimpressed with the Chiefs draft and lackluster free agency activity, and the inexplicable fact that Andy Reid still has a job, the cashout option hovered in the $50s all summer long.

Now it's Week 5, the Chiefs are the last undefeated AFC team, and the sportsbook is trying to unwind their exposure with a minimally profitable cashout offer to me.

It's gonna take more than that!

I stated in the off season, as many others did, that the upcoming Super Bowl was wide open. Still is. Chiefs have as good a chance as any of the other contenders. They just need Kenneth Walker to stay healthy and productive.

Frankly to offer a lousy $3.40 cash-out profit on that wager is an insult. But nobody ever accused bookies of being courteous. LOL

Bet365 sportsbook has been offering a TNF promo this year. Their term is a safety net bet. Other books term it a no sweat bet. If you lose the bet, you have your original wager returned to you as a bonus bet. Bet365 only requires a minimum of 2 legs, +100 odds, and a max bet of $50 for me.

Last Thursday, I bet $50 on this parlay at +700 odds.
    .

    .
Nearly all of the player props hit by halftime. Only Rodgers passing yards were a little short, by 12, I think. Bet365 offered me a $250 profit cashout option at halftime.

Knowing the Steelers were getting the ball first after halftime and Rodgers reputation for comebacks, and the Browns reputation for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, I figured this was the apex of the cashout offer, and smashed that button. Even though the Browns won on a last second field goal, and I cost myself an additional $100 in profit, I have no regrets in my decision making process at all. That likely was the best offer I was going to get, and I'd have been sweating it out in the end that I would end up with zero.

I say all of that, as I'm about to share my parlay for tonight. It's an 11 legger, with 10 fairly makeable player props, and the big payoff hinging on a big underdog winning on the moneyline.

Dallas will likely come out and blow their doors off, but if the Buccaneers can keep it close, or even get a lead at the right time of the game in relation to the player prop outcomes being likely, there may be a very nice profit to be made on a cashout. Go big or go home...

That's a very interesting idea actually playing a game beforehand for the cash-out. Particularly handicapping it for a dog grabbing an early lead, and then cashing out. I always thought of a cash-out as a defensive strategy, but this idea turns it into an offensive strategy.

Not hard to envision, say a subpar football coach, particularly with a dog, getting his team too psyched up at the start, grabbing a lead, but then during the game the players' adrenaline wears off, they run out of gas, and the favorite blows right by them to win the game.

I plan on adding this idea to my handicapping repertoire.

I forgot to mention, but as a matter of policy, bet365 offers early payout on NFL games any time your team grabs a 17+ point lead. Even if they lose the game at the end, it still goes down as a win for betting purposes. Straight bets, parlays, etc.

I guess It's only on the NFL, but coincidentally I had South Carolina ML last Saturday, blew a 17-0 lead and lost the game by a point. I also had a WNBA game ML last night, the Valkyries had a 17 point lead in the third quarter, but did hang on to win by a bucket. That SC game really stung me, and the WNBA game almost did.

That 17 point thing would really be nice for the NBA if they offer it there.

So whenever I bet on a team lately the opposing team always turns into the greatest team in the history of football.
Have a parlay on Dallas… moneyline, Dak 200 yards and Lamb 50 yards. Felt pretty confident, Tampa has out scored them 17-0 in the third quarter. Now I hope the cowgirls don’t win another game all season.

I think $813 was a pretty dam good value with Lamb sitting there at 9 yards. And with Williams stuck at 39. With the Cowboys down late by two TD's, Williams just wasn't likely to get the football.

    Well played! 👍

I didn't touch the game, but the Cowboys ML based on the records of the two teams, seemed like the logical play. For reasons about the Bucs you mentioned.

That being said, I don't keep exact track of the following, but I know the Cowboys especially during the Dak era, have turned in quite a number of clunkers against dogs on their home turf. Knowing that made it a no-play game for me.

Two picks in that game for Dak was not a surprise. Plus despite their poor record, the Tampa defense hasn't performed that badly all season. Only in the opener did they allow more than 20 points.

Eagles have both their leading rusher and receiver as "questionable" for the game. That info likely has moved the line to Jags -7.5

Eagles didn't play all that terribly in their loss last week to the present Super Bowl favorite Rams. Barkley only had 2 carries for 9 yards in that game. I'm not sure if he's even making the trip to London or not?

What does worry me is the Eagles have declined to +4000 odds to win the Super Bowl. Not a good sign.

I would think the Eagles would have received a jolt of enthusiasm for this game, over the Cowboys loss. Perhaps they have, but will something like that be enough? In any event, I'm passing on the game. Good luck however ya play it, if you do.

Saw something interesting earlier today that I wanted to share. I don't know how many of you are on Facebook, but for those of you who are, you fully understand how quirky the algorithm can get. For some inexplicable reason, I get random posts on my newsfeed from people I have no connection to whatsoever. One such individual is Antonio Brown. And let me answer this before you ask -- yes, it's his real account. Official, verified.

Everyone knows he's nuts. He probably has a date with a prison sentence in his future. I think he recently came very close.
Well, one thing he has never done is mince words, and that's because he really has never had any tact. He doesn't possess the filter that extends from his brain to his mouth. He'll pretty much say and do anything. With that said, I caught wind of a post he made this morning that really got me thinking.

I don't have it in front of me at the moment, but he basically was laughing his tail off at that game last night. And the reason he was laughing is because he said that game was "the most blatantly rigged NFL shit I've ever seen." (The part in quotes I remember and typed verbatim.) He went on to say (paraphrasing), "CeeDee Lamb was questionable, comes back for the two-point conversion, then leaves the game and doesn't come back so parlays stay active." Then he typed about 10 laughing emojis.

    But it got even better.

Some dude commented underneath his post and said, "You would know wouldn't know?" Brown replied to him, "Of course I f*cking know".......with more laughing emojis.

Prior to even reading that, I questioned what my eyes were trying to tell me last night. And no, this is not me crying over spilled milk because Dallas blew up a bet of mine. Has not one thing to do with that. I'm being completely real with you guys. I've watched more Dak Prescott games than I care to admit, thus I think I have a pretty good feel for the type of player he is. Last night I saw him alligator-arm at least 3 throws to guys who were WIDE open. Like, a 5-year-old trying to throw a football type of mechanics. The balls didn't even SNIFF the receivers. Hitting the turf a handful of yards short. There was another play when a Cowboys WR was all by his lonesome in the end zone, and all Dak had to do is lob a loaf of bread to him for the easiest TD pass of his career. Once again, he underthrew the ball and allowed a Bucs defender to deflect the pass. If it had been one pass, my spidey sense would not have tingled. But when I saw it multiple times, my eyes started to speak to me.

That entire effing game still blows my mind to smithereens. I don't want to rehash why the Cowboys were 9.5-pt favorites. We all know. But nothing about that game played out the way the money flow went, and it lasted practically the entire game. Sure, when Dallas was down 2 scores with about 5 minutes left they finally started executing the way everyone thought they would for 4 quarters. Looked like a completely different offense. But naturally they came up short, because that's what the script was screaming the entire second half.

I know nothing for a fact. But I also know I'm not brain-dead, either. More than ever before, gambling is thrust down everyone's throat, and at the forefront are the leagues we watch. They are in bed together. Watch an in-game commercial if you don't believe me. So when I see a game like last night, then I see a post from an idiot former NFL WR who knows what really goes on and isn't afraid to share it, it makes me not want to know what really takes place. There is no possible way everything can consistently be on the up and up. No possible way. We've gone our entire lives with countless examples of what people are willing to do for a buck. A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G.

The gambling landscape has to be filled with innumerable land mines that are purposely planted in the ground. I'll die on a hill with that statement.

My view is that virtually all NFL games and players are clean. That being said, It would be naive to think it never happens. However there is way too much money involved in sports these days, way too many camera angles available that could detect something fishy, and way too many out there willing to snitch, for any rational player to want to get involved in such a thing.

Of course getting involved with unsavory characters, such as those in the underworld, and allowing them to sink their claws into you in various ways, can alter anyone's perspective to remain honest. If a player gets himself in a situation whereby a mobster tells him to lay down in a game or else, you don't wish to find out what the "or else" means and you're gonna lay down. The key to prevention is to stay far away from those people.

i wholly respect your opinion, but i don't agree with it. i think if each of us was truly privy to all of the facts, our brains would implode and start to ooze from our ears.

we've been given plenty of warning signs. i could create a laundry list, but i guess i could start with hoops. look at a guy like Tim Donaghy. listen to him talk sometime. these were NBA officials, using their clout to alter outcomes. straight up, he admitted it. he took a vacay to federal prison because of it.

look at guys like Chauncey Billups and Damon Jones. coaches in the NBA. look at Terry Rozier, a player. Jontay Porter is another -- a lifetime ban.

dip down to the college ranks. i graduated from a Christian university where student-athletes are held to a higher standard, and a couple of years ago a kid named Airion Simmons was federally indicted in a point-shaving scheme. he unsuccessfully threw one game and it required him to recruit a teammate to make sure it happened in the very next because he caused the fixers to lose a considerable sum. he was successful the second time around, and he was paid in cash in an Olive Garden parking lot.

on and on. and that's just basketball, football's little brother. one can only imagine what takes place in the NFL. those dudes gamble on games like it's going out of style. Calvin Ridley was suspended for an entire year because of it. and honestly, football players have more incentive to take the dirty bag than players in any other sport. their shelf life is shorter, and they know they're compromising the quality of the rest of their lives.

i will agree to disagree with you -- imo, next to no chance that virtually all NFL games and players are clean. i think Antonio Brown is an oxygen thief, but i believe him when he says it happens all the time.

edit: and think about this. everyone views golf as a gentleman's sport. surely corruption can't infiltrate little ol' golf, can it? a dude named Matt Gogel, who plays on the PGA Tour Champions circuit for crying out loud, was suspended for 6 months for gambling on PGA Tour competitions.

    and

recently it was brought to light that Phil Mickelson entered into therapy for his gambling addiction, one that has contributed to his downfall. i love the guy, but he is such a degenerate that i wouldn't put ANYTHING past him. and for the longest time he was labeled the modern-day Arnold Palmer!

trust me, it's more widespread than you think

Having played football and baseball in grades 7 thru 12, I think I can attest to how athletes can have inconsistencies.

True story, it only happened once. I was the best left fielder I ever knew in those years. I caught everything and fielded everything. Nothing got by me unless it was way over my head. I think my fielding was easily on a major league level, and I had a rocket for an arm. Very accurate throws to home plate or any base. That being said, I was a punch and judy type hitter at best, struggled on every at bat I ever had.

So one day at practice, I'm of course out at left field, and suddenly couldn't catch a fly ball to save my life. Couldn't even catch easy fly balls that I was catching in second grade. As mentioned before, I didn't do drugs, and also I never consumed alcohol during the week. So anyway, I come in for my turn at bat to take some swings, and the coach walks over, having seen me dropping everything, and derogatorily says to me, "Sure is tough out there, isn't it Steve." I just shrugged my shoulders, I didn't even know what was going on. Later I figured it must have been something I ate or whatever.

I only bring it up because even though I never made it to a higher level, I think I can imagine that with the constant travel, hotel room food, succumbing to pretty women, and all the other many distractions and temptations of being a professional athlete, sometimes I'm surprised that there aren't more inconsistencies in their performances.

I believe those are mostly among the many reasons for their sometimes unexpected poor play, not the gambling aspect.

Here's a good one for the gallery:

I play the Louisville ML. First friggin' quarter, they're already down 14-0. Florida State has the football on the Louisville 3 yard line, 4th and goal. An obvious field goal. I look at the cash-out figuring it's around 40% equity or less. Well it was 68% equity and I smashed the button to get out of this nightmare, very happy with only a 32% equity loss. I mean Florida State is obviously going to kick a field goal to make it 17-0.

Well the "brilliant" Florida State coach decides to go for it, and is stopped cold. Changes the momentum entirely. Well you see it coming. First play of the series, Louisville ball at their 3 yard line, the running back takes it to the house for a 97 yard rushing touchdown.

Louisville goes on to win the game by 24 points.

Sports betting - tough way to make a living

The Cee Dee Lamb thing is blatantly disgusting, he was involved in some weird thing before where he came in for one play in the second half then was out with an injury for the game

And yes once a player steps into the field in the second half it takes away the early exit for betting refunds

I might not place a bet on Dallas anything for the rest of the season, let alone Cee Dee Lamb

For some weird reason, I was thinking about the poor slob out there who had his rent money bet on Florida State, at the book that Count mentioned. Whereby the bet is won when being up 17 points. His team is up by 14 with a chip shot field goal about to happen, and win the bet. He's already poured himself a glass of cheap champagne to celebrate the easy money.

If he checked himself into an insane asylum after that game, nobody would blame him.

Now. I don't know how to do needlepoint but IM GONNA LEARN cause there are some blazers in there.

That Penn State line is a puzzler? I guess the computer is anticipating a bounce-back win?

Been some crazy lines this season and for a while. Of course trying to find out how the master computer sets the lines, might be more secretive than the Manhattan Project, that even the Vice President didn't know about. LOL

That being said, I think AI is now being used to create at least some of these lines. Makes it even more interesting, in my view anyway, to try and beat it.
