Second Thought! REPLACED! My Goal was "NOT" accomplished at the Chicago/Rosemont Show!

Hi guys,
Feels great to be back at a Big Coin Show!

Since coming back to hunt coins. This was a breath of fresh air.
Despite being sort of shocked where it took place.
Sure, wasn't terrible but just didn't expect it.
Whatever I had left from my, lack of collection, bc of selling everything.
In recent years.
I really didn't get to sell anything!
Can't blame the buyers, like I said, all my "good stuff" was sold and gone!
Anyway, what I mentioned in an earlier thread about "Who's going to the Rosemont Stephen's Convention?"
I posted, if I were to attend. I would only go for one reason!
That was to hunt down a certain

"VARIETY".
Without releasing what certain variety
that was. I was worried that someone else would beat me to the punch!
😆
Sorry guys.
Well,

I did it. I tracked one down!

For $40
And it didn't take long either.
Probably, after only 11 or 12 tables!
It was calling out to me...
Lol
If you guys follow my threads, you might of guessed which variety that was?
I mentioned it flat out!
Lol
Oh well, here it is.
Nothing huge or highly rare but just very 😎 cool to hunt down!
It's the

1956 PROOF Franklin Half Dollar Type 1

Four Feathers
Although, it might of been cleaned? :#

Hold on trying to take better pics!

Spent about 4 hours there. My only purchase too!
Mostly gabbing with some old friends and new, as well!
The Star event of browsing...
When I approached
William Baeder's table.
Currency

Billy had the most electrifying Bills!
So rare with the
Lowest of Serial Numbers ever seen on some currency!
Wow!
One that actually had a SOLID
00000000
Many with only 1 Digit too!
00000001
Also, many with the print in
2021,
With the numbers being accordingly!
00002021
20210000
00202100
And $100 bills and $500 bills with...
Both
00000001*
and in Pristine Condition too.

Amazing!

Only 25,000 produced!

Preferred Client Special: 1956 Type 1 Proof Franklin Half Dollars PF67, PF68, PF69 / Rare Collectibles TV - Rare & Historic Coins

Hold on guys...
As you look deeper in my thread.
You'll find out I was wrong about "Accomplishing my Goal..."
You'll see why, sorry!
Lol

Glad you had fun at the coin show!

Not trying to pop your bubble, but doesn't that look like a polished Unc example? There is strike weakness, severe flow lines, and plenty of contact marks.

Yeah, I sort suspected a cleaned or polished but business strike?
Oh! So you're saying this might not be a Proof?

fwiw, I did ask a few experts at the Show. Everyone said, "Proof"?

Yep, you're welcome. This is one of the coolest varieties!
Very Low mintages. I heard they caught the mistake right away? Than proceeded with the
    "Three Feathers" design.
Not really sure if this should be called a variety or an error?
    Thanks

I also think it is a polished circulation strike. The surfaces don't look right for a proof, and proofs will rarely ever have reed marks from contact with other coins, unless they were mishandled or stored in a bag for some reason. Thankfully you didn't spend much money on it, but that dealer should have known better.
I think your best bet for finding one in the wild would be to look through lots of proof sets, same way you would search for a 1964 accented hair Kennedy half.

Are you sure that 1956 Franklin Half Dollar is a Proof rather than a polished business strike?

Hard to tell from those photos but seems like a weaker than usual strike on the bell lines and an unexpected amount of bag marks for a proof.

I unfortunately agree with the polished business strike assessment.

No, didn't go back to the Show. I picked it up from my dealer friend, at his shop!
Gave me a good deal, as usual.
    $80.
I might send in to PCGS?
Hoping it grades at least a 63?
    Cam, I doubt it.

Are there noticeable hairlines on it? It would have to have a lot to bring the grade all the way down to 63. If I had to guess from the pictures I would think at least a PR65, which would still be allowed to have a few, less noticeable, hairlines.

Yeah. I changed my mind about grading. Too much cost!
Near $100 after all the fee's.
I just shot it on the Bay.

Do you mean you posted this coin on ebay for auction? Or that you just spent the $100 that would have been used for grading on the 'bay?
