Best of the Mint Series + SemiQ Silver Proof Set - CACG Images and Grades (Lots of pictures)

lermishlermish Posts: 5,085 ✭✭✭✭✭

My first memory of coin collecting was pulling bicentennial quarters from change and thus, the semiquincentennial series really scratched the itch for me. I love the gold coin designs, particularly the two big ones. The privy mark, which bothered some, doesn't bug me at all. On the balance, I really like the companion silver medals as well. To make a nice even box of 20, along with the 5 gold coins and 5 medals, I decided to order the silver proof set as well.

I sent the coins to CACG to benefit from the great holders, speedy turnaround, and fantastic images. I was also able to get the submission in just a day before their Modern Express pricing had a substantial price hike implemented. The tougher grading shouldn't make too much of a difference for many of these coins...which is a good thing given some of the results. I am a touch disappointed in the grades for some of the medals but so be it. I submitted all of these coins in the OGP containers, which I had never opened.

CACG provides in-holder pictures and pictures with light and dark backgrounds. I think the dark background looks great so that is what I've posted.

    Those are all beautiful coins!
I was 12 during the bicentennial. Just received 2 silver sesquicentennial halves I bought off eBay and have 2 dimes coming. Then I work on the quarters. Congrats on the grades. 🥳

Awesome! The modern releases aren't as bad as everyone says some times.

Are the gold pieces .9999 or the standard AGE .900 fine planchets?

Stunning moderns! I like the silver medal designs better than I’d expected. Might have to pick one or two up.

Superb collections are built more by omission than by addition.

The gold are all .9999. I don't do a lot of modern stuff but I've been very happy with them.

Not only are they mostly really attractive and well done but they're unique designs. I don't think you'd be disappointed. If I was doing a silver only set, I think they would pair really nicely with the American Liberty silver medals.
