My Chicago show report

I live within half an hour of the show so it was easy for me. It was fun, but I didn’t find anything and left early both Thursday and Friday. These are my observations and they may differ from others.
There wasn’t much of a line either day at the opening. I dropped off coins at PCGS and Great Collections. Again, not much of a line. Retail seemed to be down. Early Cents, specialists in half and large cents, skipped the show this year. A major Indian cent dealer had a table but didn’t show up. The other major dealer did not come. There were major dealers of colonials. There were some major dealers of gold and Morgans. There wasn’t much of non-gold type. I saw lots of PCGS and NGC coins. I didn’t see lots of CAC stickers and fewer CACG coins. That may be due to the lack of high-end dealers.
I don’t think it was as good as last year. The show was in a different room as I suspect there were less tables. The attendance at Central States was better. Unlike ANA I had time to sit and talk to talk to dealers.
I find it encouraging that there are quite a few young dealers that are traveling to the show. They seem enthusiastic and have customer friendly personalities.
