Numismatic News Magazine... are they still in business?
I thought awhile back there was an issue, where individuals were no longer receiving the magazine, and the rumor was the publisher was in trouble financially? Or perhaps it is just my imagination. Are any of you subscribers, and if so, how reliable is the publication?

Does your computer have access to Google? Maybe try that before posting unfounded rumors.
.
That is not helpful.
I think it was "Coin World" that had a problem not producing and delivering the papers ?
I don't know about Numismatic News - I do not subscribe to that (or Coin World any more).
.
Sorry, but what is "not helpful" is posting nonsense questions that can easily be answered with a simple internet search. And that's just in general.
Spread false rumors in the process is inexcusable. Both of those publications are presently alive and well. Which could be easily ascertained simply by visiting their respective websites and seeing current content posted to both of them.
Both of those publications [Numismatic News, Coin World] are presently alive and well.
.
Good to know.
PS:
You could have just posted that instead of the other stuff.
Understood. But I wanted to make the comment about posting unfounded rumors that could be easily investigated by a simple internet search before posting to a public forum.
@tincup could have also just asked his question about NN without the inflammatory preamble.
Pedantry will continue until morale improves.
Now listen boy, I'm tryin' to teach you sumthin' . . . . that ain't an optical illusion, it only looks like an optical illusion.
My mind reader refuses to charge me. . . . . . .
There was not any intent on my part of "inflammatory preamble". It was a sincere question. What prompted my question was my running across an online advertisement for Numismatic News... with a 90% off headline. That just brought up a recollection of some issue a year or so back. When I did a google search (yes I did one before I initiated the post). And saw a site where one could subscribe. Wouldn't mind subscribing... but had the thought that if they were the ones having some financial concerns.... would not want to do so.
So please.... don't be so fast jumping to your own conclusions on other post's intent.
Thanks Dan... now that I think more on it, I think that was the one. I always like NN, though I liked the newspaper format better!
NJCoin, at least your postings regarding my question were very helpful to me in one way. It certainly reaffirmed why I have spent less and less time on this forum. Some things never seem to change.
how pleasant some replies are
If you visited their website, you saw they have current content, so why question how reliable the publication is by repeating a rumor that you misremembered?
Glad to have been of service! Because you certainly didn't need to post what you posted, repeating an old rumor about another publication while asking a question with an obvious answer you already found without posting.

To me this is the correct answer. Is the OP trying to raise post count?
Unfortunately, with the ensh*tification of Google search results with AI slop, that's no longer a viable process.
You have to read the slop and click through to the primary sources to be sure what you are reading is true and current and not outdated or hallucinations.

I'm not sure AI slop is any different from humam speculative slop on forums like this one. You always have to assess sources.
All comments reflect the opinion of the author, even when irrefutably accurate.
You clearly framed it as a question and were not starting false rumors to anyone that actually read your post. The problem here is not you at all.
90% off sounds like a good deal. I might consider it too.
Both of those publications are presently alive and well.
The above statement might not be exactly correct.
As I recall, Mike Diamond had reported on this forum that CW had not paid him for new content for some months and so he stopped submitting. They then resorted to running old columns.
Also, there was a coin publication that fell behind in publishing new issues, which was discussed on the forum some months ago.
I took the OP's question to be about delivery of physical copies. If that was the case, then looking online might not tell the whole story.
All I know is that I wrote to NN, CW, and COINage about a story of interest to the hobby recently, and CW was the only one that responded. I think that is good for the hobby.
I can't see how you would know this and state it as a fact without going through their books. I hope everything is well with them, but only they really know.
Don't need to go through their books. Neither does any customer.
Tomorrow is not guaranteed for any of us. Today, they have functioning websites with current content.
They are alive and well. Presently. Not necessarily forever.
No one, other than their outside auditor or CFO, would be able to answer the OP's question to your standard. And, pre-bankruptcy, if they would ever respond at all, they would respond exactly as I did. So I guess there was no reason for the OP to start the thread, was there?
You got it half right, they are obviously alive, but you have no way of knowing if they are well. That is what the original post was asking.
With all of the competition of alternative media today, it is getting harder to compete for customers, especially when much of it is on the web for free. There is someone on youtube who makes daily videos about current coins for example.
So you should have said "They are alive and I don't know the rest."
There, that fixes it.
They are "well" because they are currently updating content. That will be the case until it is not. Could be tomorrow, next week, next month, next year, or never.
If you want guarantees, you don't subscribe, or ever pay in advance for anything.
Please don't tell me what I "should have said," nitpicking everything, looking for a fight. I can speak for myself. They are alive and well.
The rumor cited in the OP was incorrect insofar as it never even applied to NN. This whole thread is pointless.
Anyone can go on their respective websites and see they are "alive and well" today. And no one knows what tomorrow holds. Including them.
Spirit Airlines struggled for years, but didn't stop flying until the day it stopped flying. People who liked what they had to offer would have been denying themselves for years before they stopped flying.
Other businesses, including pretty much all of the airlines, also struggle but find their way out. In fact, that's precisely what happened with CW, the subject of the rumor in question.
A few print issues were missed, credits were given, and everything is fine now. They are "alive and well." Printing and mailing magazines, co-hosting coin shows, the works.
When you put a 'financial troubles" rumor out there you are really just gossiping. Reactions will ensue.
That is my two cents.
Here’s some detail about the question in the OP.
My times may be off, but roughly two years ago, from what I recall reading, Coin World’s printer stopped printing their issues due to being owed “too much money”. The digital edition was still being offered. After roughly 6 - 9 months or so, apparently it was resolved, and the print edition resumed being mailed. My print subscription ran out about the time the trouble started, and I renewed it shortly after all was resolved. Once resolved, each weekly issue is now only about 36 pages, counting the cover.
I subscribe to both Coin World and Numismatic News, and love them both.
I’m hoping to stay out of the above pi- -ing match, so please don’t spray me.

Jesus help us.
Numis News is still relevant, merely less prolific. I check in on them frequently.

Reading this thread got me looking and I came across this article, FWIW:

Yes I do! I really enjoyed those promos back then.... free Silver Eagle with a 3 year subscription / renewal if I recall. I think I also have a short run BU Memorial Cent collection in special folder with a medal that they once offered.
Why yes, as a matter of fact I do. It's a '92 isn't it?
I also still have my 1982 mint set. While mine doesn't have a Gem philly quarter these are one of the only sources for this coin and I have several other sets that I've purchased and a couple of them have a Gem.
I've got the medal in my collection of publisher memorabilia (medals).
There is so much CRAP online for free -- especially from TT and YT -- that we should make sure we continue to patronize our old standbys like CW (both), NN, etc.
Even clicking on digital pop-ups helps them.
I subscribed for there magazine a couple of days ago.
I recently renewed my subscription for four more years. The number of people that have approached me about coins/collecting when they see me reading it at my favorite breakfast establishment every morning is pretty amazing. I have a fellow patron that is 92 and he has taken a real interest in reading the stories about our coinage so I give him the magazine after I’m done with it and he said he finds it ‘rather fascinating to reading about our coins’ history!’ The magazine has also been responsible for two of my favorite purchases….both PF 68 Ultra Cam Barber quarters. I love the magazine and look forward to my three monthly issues. Cheers, karl
They are, and they have a lot of good articles. Worth the subscription price.
I have never had a subscription to Numismatic News. I subscribed to Coin World faithfully from 1979 to around 2001. At that time they offered a free web site to record your collection. It was difficult to use but I spent a solid 50 plus hours logging in my collection. One day I logged in and the site was gone. I checked past issues; not a word about scrubbing the site, so I called and asked if it was down for a reboot. The fellow on the phone listened when I complained they should have at the very least given us some warning. I pointed out what a major waste of time it had been and how rude it was to treat customers like that. He said, "Too bad for you", and hung up. Since that day I answer every e-mail, flyer or offer the same way. "Too bad for you." James PS just my experience but I hold grudges dearly.
