A 68FB is a $2500 coin. I think I would rather own 5 68FB for that kind of money.

What would someone pay if one of these first gen holders showed up and the coin was dripping with PVC or corroded from improper storage?
The gold sticker is definitely a wow factor, but it's all about the holder here, obviously. Will def be following along with other interested parties to see how high it will potentially go!
In my world it makes no sense, why pay over 75X guide for just the "packaging"?
There will be two winners in this auction, the seller and the auction house, the buyer will end up losing in the end.

I disagree. First off, it isn't 75X's the price guide. Your math is incorrect.
Second, the "packaging" is as collectible among enthusiasts as the coin it contains. Calling it simply, "packaging" is the same as simply calling the coin a "dime".
Third, there will be three winners, not just two. You forgot the buyer. The joy this coin will bring to him or her and the potential for profit down the line is high.
Lastly, for many reasons, not just the ones I suggest, it isn't 'ridiculous' unless you consider all of coin collecting ridiculous.
Because, in their world, people collect those things.
I'm guessing you probably have coins that you have paid more for than a non-collector would think makes sense.
It's a first edition. The 211th copy of the first edition. And it's in great condition. Plus, CAC likes it too.

BTW what are price guides? They are just that, guides. How many times do we see coins sell at a large variance to the price guides. How often do we hear about 2 bidders going after something at a price way above a price guide or when there isn't 2 bidders bidding and the bottom drops next time that coin comes to auction.
I for one couldn't give a hoot about price guides, if I want something bad enough I go for it no matter what the price guides say/dictate. And with that intention I also know I will take full responsibility for any losses incurred when it comes time to selling it later assuming that I do. A guide is a guide, to me it should be used for only generic material, but typically I don't buy generic material , I buy those items that move me.
Most have heard the adage that coin collecting should not be related to investing but it seems that price guides are designed for investing, contradicting the adage.
And how many times do I read that price guide prices need to be updated for a certain series or year or grade etc. In other words how does one depend on the obviously inaccurate pricing since the guides don't get upgraded often or kept current.
Let's not forget Broadstruck, gone but not forgotten...
