The 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition America Welcomes the World Medal (cataloged as Hendershott 30-280) is a commemorative souvenir piece from the St. Louis World's Fair.

Design and Specifications:

• Designer: Designed by the medalist DePaulis, with his signature DePaulis F inscribed on the obverse.

• Manufacturer: Struck and issued by the Monnaie de Paris (Paris Mint), often found with its original round circular mint box.

• Size and Weight: Measures approximately 50.5 mm (about 2 inches) in diameter, roughly 1/8-inch thick, and weighs about 58.5 grams.

• Composition: Struck in bronze (frequently marked with the word BRONZE and a small cornucopia mint mark on the reverse).

• Obverse (Front): Features an allegorical relief scene of four standing female figures (one semi-nude) next to a tree, symbolizing diverse international nations participating in the global exposition.

• Reverse (Back): Bears a straight six-line raised legend reading: ST. LOUIS / 1904 / AMERICA / WELCOMES / THE / WORLD.

    Lovely piece!
    1904 is a year that I collect, but I’ve never seen or heard of that medal.

    30+ years coin shop experience (ret.) Coins, bullion, currency, scrap & interesting folks. Loved every minute!

    Beautiful medal and awesome to have the original case. I had the pleasure of spending lunch years ago with Mr. Hendershott during an ANA summer seminar. I think he was around 100 at the time and his enthusiasm was infectious. We should all be so lucky.

    When I tried googling this it came up with a medal designed by Adolph A Weinman, triangular shaped, also very cool.

    IIRC, there were 100+ examples of the larger French medal shown in the OP in the Eric Newman estate material. They were offered in several different sales in groups of 5 and 10 pieces per lot in medium size NGC slabs. I ended up with 10 and it took a bit of time to sell them all.
