I bought a whole bunch of Wooden Nickles today

I was at this crazy estate sale full of old "junq" and saw this giant collection. I don't know jack about these and I assume 90% of wooden nickels are not worth much... But, the majority of these seem to be from the early to mid 70s. There are a bunch of California, Oregon & Washington state coin club issues. Many of these are from all over the country.

I guessed you weren't raised with the warning: "don't take any wooden nickels".
They were pretty reasonably priced to have made back in the day. In 1980 I had 1000 made for around $35.
Ha. Thanks all... About what I figured. I do remember my parents would joke "dont take any wooden nickels". I paid $22 for this collection today. Not too expensive of a lesson I guess.
I don't think that's a bad price at all for that variety.
Ive seen a few dealers using those to mark vacant spots in their cases after coins in their inventory have sold.
Thought it was a pretty nifty use for them.
I have one in my desk drawer that says, “TUIT”. When someone in my household (I won’t name my wife, lol) procrastinates, I ask her, “Will you do it when you get around to it?” And when she says yes, I then hand her that wooden nickel, and say, “OK, you now have a round tuit!”
When I was in high school, one of my teachers said to me, “Steven, you’ll never amount to anything, you procrastinate way too much!” I then replied, “Just you wait!” 🤣

My dad used to have wooden nickels made as advertising and on the back they always had the TUIT. Still have a couple on my desk.

I don't think it's a "lesson". They are what they are. If you like them, $22 is a perfectly reasonable price for fun.

These are a lot of fun to collect and trade.
Wholesale prices are very low.
You might want to specialize. My favorite are industrial manufacturers and bicentennial but I collect several others as well.
Not expensive or a lesson at all, if you enjoy looking at them from time to time. It appears they sell frequently on eBay. Currently there are "30,000+ results for wooden nickel"!

Good buy. The case has many uses,parts,hardware etc, if the nickels were taken out and displayed elsewhere.
