Raw or graded doesnt matter.

Im kind of expecting to hear crickets.....

I have only owned one, a long time ago, and I seem to recall it was a 1921-D.

Sorry, I don't have much in the line of quality Morgans, certainly nothing PL
I hope your knee and finances both improve...

All I have is an obverse slab photo. And the coin is at the bank….over a thousand miles away. So this will be it for awhile…lol
Chance favors the prepared mind.
I do not but yesterday received an email from Rob Paul about some new coins for sale and they had a 21P 64 PL. Very nice coin, mirrors look good.

Here is my 1921 PCGS 63PL, wide receding. Currently headed to our hosts for attribution.
Nice coins guys. Thanks for posting them.

I have amassed a collection of 20 of them. For some reason I enjoy the challenge of finding a nice fully struck 1921. They usually dont come that nice. They were basically mass produced junk. Theres an extremely high population of 1921 Morgans but the PL is very low considering a production of 86,730,00.
I think they are undervalued but I guess the demand is not there.
I am in no way trying to turn this into an infomercial. This is my collecting passion. This coin was struck with fresh dies no doubt. Just look at the arrow heads and the detail of the wreath. You just dont see them like this often.

The challenge is fun, I once had a 1921 in PCGS 62DMPL, PCGS 63DMPL and PCGS 64DMPL at once. That was crazy.
If you had those coins today you would be looking at roughly $30K for the group or more with a CAC sticker.
What I wouldn't give for a nice 1921 DMPL. I have a couple I think are close but not close enough.
Maybe someday.

@Luxor what's the grade. Looks really nice.

Here's another well defined 1921PL from my collection. I wish it had more contrast on the obverse Miss Liberty but I think its a nice coin for the date. The lettering and date have good contrast.

They were spitting these 1921-P coins on high because they needed the job done quick.
Thats a long interesting story about how incredibly bad the U.S. government dealt with both silver coins and silver certifiates under the Pittman act of 1918. Its a good read for silver dollar enthusiasts.

I would say that many of the 1921 PL coins that are already in holders, would not be PL today. (Including the raw coins above.) No offense to the owner of those. Today's PL/DMPL standards are definitely more strict. I have owned several and they were not even close.
What if I told you they were cracked out of modern slabs?
Just curious, why do you think my coins would not be graded PL from my images?
Im not offended at all but you cannot see the depth of the mirrors from the image. I would say the the full strike is the first clue that these coins were struck early with fresh dies. @FredS do you know the criteria for a PL coin?
I know they were very liberal during the OGH and Fatty era but I purchased my coins because in my opinion they were graded and met the criteria for PL.

Maybe he doesn’t think your coins would be graded PL because, as you said “you cannot see the depth of the mirrors from the image.”

@Mfeld you make a good point.
Ill have to accept that people think in different ways and opinions vary.
Ive sunk alot of money relatively speaking on my 1921 PL coins. Id hate to think they were all valued at $100 or less.
I am just trying to participate on this forum.

Well, call me skeptical, but I will need to see proof that you cracked those out of modern slabs. There would be absolutely zero reason to do so, especially since you say you need to sell them. Even if you didn't need to sell them, what would be the point of cracking them out of an almost impossible designation, (PL/DMPL) on 1921 Morgan's?

This last photo looks PL. Any reason why many of the photos above all have water spots or some stains on them. Is that common for the 1921 with a PL or even semi-PL designation.
Very common for the date. They used some kind of solution before they were minted. They show up on PL coins. There is no way to remove them.
Copied from a commentary
I found with an internet search-
Incomplete rinsing after the whitening bath. Very common on all the Pittman silver dollars due to the haste in which they were made.

Thanks for reply, guess when you rush the process you get a inferior end result. I've seen on 'some' Morgans, as that is what I collect, but on these 1921's seem commonplace. Just checked my three 1921's and only the 'S' had the stains.
See the water stains and also how the mirrors dont show up. This is an MS65PL from the pcgs app.

You can see the water stain and also how the mirrors dont show up. I have a couple that look nicer than this. For example the last coin im my post.

This whole thread has the feel of a buy-sell-trade post. At least show the tags of what they were, if you want to sell them. So did you crack all of your coins out, or just the impossibly hard ones to get graded.
Anyone here who thinks it is wise to crack your coins out, BEFORE you sell them, please let me know what I am missing. Maybe send them to CAC first, so you can also peel the sticker off.

Your rudeness continues.
Many collectors prefer to remove their coins from their holders. That’s regardless of the financial downside or how unwise you or others might think it is to do so. Sometimes unanticipated events occur and it turns out that the coins need to be sold long before it was anticipated. It’s not like @Morgan13 decided to sell his coins and then cracked them out.
Having read many of his posts (several of which are about his love for 1921 Morgan dollars, including PL’s) I’m sure this thread wasn’t an attempt to sell his coins here. So why would he show the grading labels, other than to prove something to you? As he stated, he doesn’t own you anything. But you owe him an apology, though I’d be surprised to see it.

I have to also say that that I have established a good reputation for what I have sold on this forum. Anybody who buys a coin from me can always send it back.
Thank you @Mfeld for clearing the air.
I will be selling some but not all of my collection.
I hit send prematurely with this post.
I dont care if I sell even one of my.1921 coins. It doesn't matter. I will be okay. Im fact I am going to hold off selling them. The lights will stay on and the oil tank will be full. My wife and I will be just fine.

These beautiful coins that @proofcollection ownes are a prime example of how PL or even DMPL coins can appear in images. I know he has an amazing collection but images do not show the mirrors of a coin. You can be a hair off from PL on a 1921 and not get the designation from any of the grading companies.

At @Morgan13 , your comments on how difficult it is to judge these coins from photos is what has always sidelined me. The slightest difference can play a huge roll in the grade but I don't trust myself to "see" this when all i have is pic. to go by. I am curious though; do you buy coins via photo or do you see the coins in person? James
I also don't mind adding. I am a slab guy through and through but morgan13 is one of my favorite posters and contributes a great deal to this site. James
LOL. I just call it like I see it. He has several other threads where he claims he is sending in raw 1921 PL coins to get them graded. He has BST threads where he is selling 1921 PL coins, IN THE HOLDER. But when I simply say these don't look PL to me, he claims the coins above were busted out of MODERN holders. He even has an ICG 1921 PL for sale. That one stayed in the holder for some reason.
Sorry, not buying it and you owe me an apology for the rudeness comment, however, I would be surprised to see it.
By the way, when you say your coins are for sale, and post them, with tons of pictures, on the main thread, that is not allowed. That is why we have BST.
Calling it as you see it doesn’t mean you weren’t rude. It’s your prerogative to doubt what he posted. But just because you have a different mindset about removing coins from holders doesn’t mean he and others don’t do it. I’ve seen examples of collectors doing that with far more valuable collections.
Mark Feld* of Heritage Auctions*Unless otherwise noted, my posts here represent my personal opinions.
Fair enough. He immediately got defensive, then doubled down on why they are PL, only then claiming they were cracked out. I am sorry I came across rude, but I still do not believe that! Forums are for opinions, and that is mine. Cheers!
If I am reading FredS correctly, he isn't so much casting dispersions on those who choose to crack-out coins in slabs, it is more specific as to why Morgan13 would be doing so on some and leaving others (such as the ICG) intact.
Perhaps he could have been a bit more gingerly in his comment, yet diverse opinions on this forum is what keeps it active and also a learning experience.
Yet, your take has merit and consideration.
I don't think either of you owe the other an apology.
I dont want any problems. I have alot going on in my life. I do not intend to sell all of my coins just some of them. I dont want to screw anyone on this forum. I just wanted to have some fun with it. I didnt think it would go this way.
Lets just close up this thread.

@morgan13: Am I understanding you correctly: you own TWENTY 1921 PL Morgans? If so that’s… noteworthy! I hope your knee improves.

Thank you.
Most of the time its ebay. I have also bought many raw coins. My objective was to fill a dansco with raw proof like 1921 Morgans. I bought many slabs on ebay. ANACS, PCGS and NGC. I also purchased several from online dealers.
It took me two years to accumulate what I have. I have seen proof like coins in slabs that I did not like especially older slabs when they were a little lose with grading. The grading company's have tightened up. I have no doubt that collectors have older slabs with PL coins in them that would not grade PL today. I do have a few that are questionable and I would not offer them for sale without describing them properly.
Things do change with grading company's. Anyone who submits raw coins to 3rd party grading companys many times are disappointed with the grade any do disagree.
I could go on an on about grading but I have said enough.
