I had quietly competed against Mack Chase pursuit of wonderful walkers for over 25 years. But I had 2% of his funds so I was usually in 2nd place. He was an absolute classy gentleman. I also pursued other collections so I was not quite as laser focused on walkers as he was. He absolutely loved his walkers. They were his pride and joy. You had to respect and admire his love of his walkers. He ended up having multiples of the same date/mm walkers.

I am in the middle of my pursuit of $20 double eagles so I am finding myself too low in funds to acquire his 1921-D walker in PCGS/CAC MS-66 which I had a chance to buy back in 1997 but liked the sister 1921-P walker in the same grade more at that time olus I could afford it more as well.

The 1921-D walker in PCGS/CAC is a one of a kind top quality coin and it will not go cheap. But worth every cent it sells for and will garner more than the published price list. It will be sold by StacksBowers right after the summer ANA,

Give it time, give it time! I don't mote over coins (like I use to) that I may not ever owning. I instead, appreciate what I have followed with pondering notions that I have examples that others are wishing they could own. Are there finer examples out there with Jefferson nickels than what I have and can't afford? Of course there are! I have a maintained list of them over the years in a file somewhere but off-hand, I don't know what they are. lol There was a time I would spend hours wishing I would own such and such a coin someday, for example, a 1954-S that I once turned it down due to it having a weak area of strike detail and marky. Another, a 1961-D that also had weak details. The ludicrous idea of spending thousands on a coin that is not all there has eliminated a few of those pipe dreams, I have fortunately and successfully have evaded that course of neglect and am darn proud of it! But I don't mote over coins I'll never own because, I guess, I have created a standard of grade that is so high that there are very few coins in existence to meet those standards. But I can still accept coins of inferior quality but not by much. Here's a very recent addition I have just photographed, a very colorful, proof-like 1968-S business strike in an ANACS holder. This one needs to be seen in hand!

Best of luck with your endeavor of acquiring........

Lovely nickel, must be struck as a early business strike from a proof die? First year that San Francisco Mint struck proof coins..

Maybe it’s just me but based on the images, that ‘21D looks like it was dipped within an inch of its life, yet it still CAC’ed and Griff’ed.

I guess that’s just expected on high-end, rare, key dates…🤷‍♂️ :# JMHO. It’s a pop 4/0 coin. PCGS retail is $175K. It will likely exceed that. I feel that the bidding will be ‘spirited’.

The GBW-Cajun Collection-Duckor ‘21D 66 coin has the same look. IMHO

The third one is in the Forsythe collection and has magnificent original color.

Not sure about the fourth one or where it resides..

@oreville You shared pix with me once of your 1921 P. I agree that yours is much more lustrous.

I was a little like Mack Chase in having too many duplicate coins.

    I had forgotten I own a tough to find 1918-D walker in PCGS/CAC MS-65.

Mack Chase had dozens of slabbed mint state 1941 to 1947 late (short) walker sets. He kept accumulating more of them.

I feel that and I get it. Many of us enthusiasts just have a real love for the Walker. Even though I completed my 65 coin Registry set to the best of my ability, in my optimal grade levels; I still managed to accumulate 15 duplicates along the way, so I actually have 80 Walkers, in total. ;)

    80?
Piker….as someone who used to make a market in walkers, back in the day I probably had 80 in stock at any given time, on top of my set 😆
But I know you’re talking high end examples, not mid grade/raw, etc. And I wished I’d held on to them, as the prices have really gone up on the early dates over the years.

As much as I collect MS-66 to MS-68 walkers my favorite walkers are pretty PCGS OGH and rattler walkers in MS-63 grade that CAC stickered afterwards. I prefer them softly struck but highly lustrous and free of bagmarks. More than a few of them are gold stickered.

Tonight is the big night!! Good luck to anyone who decides to participate in this epic auction!! I will be watching from the sidelines with my finger on the pulse of the market. The set that I started 21 years ago is exactly the way I want it…No need to change or upgrade anything. But, this should be very interesting!!

I really liked the 1933S in OGH 66CAC Griff. It sold for $8558.00. It had some nice original toning.

    Oreville,
most of those better dates i was looking for were out of my price range, the 21-d in 66 looked fabulous, based on price, I guess so.

I could have afforded the 21-s in 63 , but i found it (looking at pictures) to be a bit more surface contacted than I like to see on a 63. So I didnt even bid, but based on your knowledge of the guy and his love for walkers, maybe it looked a lot better in person than pic portrayed it.

I was (pleasantly) surprised to see that even the secondary coins, in many cases non-CAC NGC coins, did pretty well. Granted I was only watching the earlier dates, and didn’t check any of the later dates.

Russ, may he rest in peace, owned the nicest MS-64 walkers I had ever seen. Some of them were so weakly struck but had incredible luster they were a joy to see.

Are the Stack's prices messed up or are you adding another 22 percent onto the final price which already includes the 22 percent?

The Stack's Bowers price realized does include the 22 percent.

The hammer prices before the 22 % were:

    10,000
    150,000
    4,600
    7,000

It can be seen here in their video of the Mack Chase auction.

I stand corrected. StacksBowers could do a better job of clarifying the selling price and wheter it includes the juice or not.

In youalls defense, in some cases on some platforms like sb, when it first sells, it dosnt include bp, but when it goes into the archives it lists total price realized incl bp. Have seen this several times.
