Why not spring for the extra $11 and get them graded and shipped at the same time with sequential cert numbers?

Yeah, I would have liked to wait and save $100. It's not enough to be worth the hassle, risk, and either tying up funds, or missing out on replacement. A 1.74% price reduction is probably not that big of a motivation for anyone who can afford to buy a $5700 coin set. These will probably be gone by the end of the month.

I ordered release day (last Thursday), it didn't end up shipping until Tuesday and will arrive tomorrow (Friday). Start to finish a week and a day. Most of the time, its much quicker than this, but this does happen every so often.

On a side note -
This BoM, then next one (1907), and the 2016 30th anniv ASE, all with the edge lettering, are the main reason I went with PCGS for my slabs (since ~2020). They use that gasket and leave some space around the rim. That was the idea anyway, you still cant read the lettering very well at all. Oh well. But it still provides more of a 3D vibe of the coin in the holder. IMO, the NGC holder (my other consideration), while very solid often goes right up to the rim ... doesnt have as much of that feel once in a holder.
(I kept 1 of my 2016 ASEs in the airtite capsule, ungraded. Glad I did. Cant afford multiple BoMs. )
I finally received this set today and the gold coin is by far the most eye-popping coin I have ever purchased from the U.S. Mint. Because Lady Liberty is rendered in profile (the only proper way to render faces on coinage, IMO), the high relief is just amazing. The roundness of her cheek protrudes outward from the surface of the coin and you can even see a rounded protrusion in the surface of the coin where her shoulder projects outward from the coin surface.
This was totally worth the money just for the gold coin alone.
My gold coin appears flawless to my eyes so I'm absolutely thrilled. The silver medal seems to have a pin point-sized shiny spot on the obverse but I'm okay with that. I do like the fact that if silver medal Lady Liberty were a real person, she would be a very attractive young woman by mid to late 20th century standards.
Even though I already like the design of the gold coin more than the silver medal, the high relief of the gold coin totally mogs the silver medal. The reverse of the silver medal perhaps could have used more detail. The bald eagle's body doesn't have any texturing so it looks too smooth, almost like the body of a dove.

They usually sell a lot… Heck, when they sell a small 5 gram ingot of silver for $75 you’d get the impression that that small amount of silver took 20 years to mine…lol. I just mean predatory in that people could easily get the same stuff far cheaper. I'd guess many are elderly. I could never do this. I could not enjoy money that I made by taking advantage of people. I guess that's why I'm a physician and not in some type of business that does this.
Sensing some noting that some docs rip people off, I know. There are some bad apples in every profession, but you know what I mean. I'm a cardiac anesthesiologist. We just take care of people.

I think that the original, UHR is tops, then the 1907 HRs, then this. I think that the reverse of the FH gold is just amazing, but not the obverse. Of course, this is true for the original that it is made to emulate. I think that the 2009 UHR is nice looking. However, it's so small that it really takes away from what it could be had it been the size of the original.
I think that the RP Gold Buff is great looking as well.
It will be interesting to see how the 1907 HR looks later this month. The privy marks really hurt the BOMs. Not so much the dime as it's so small, but the others.

I bought the 2009 Saint Gaudens Ultra High Relief coin the year it was issued. I don't rate it as highly as this year's 1804 silver dollar gold coin because the Saint Gaudens coin renders Lady Liberty face-on. I've mentioned somewhere in another thread that the face-on perspective of Liberty on the Saint Gaudens coin is less bad than most because Liberty is rendered full body so the face details are lost due to the smallness of the head which is made smaller by the relative smallness of the coin. The Mint might have been able to make the 2009 Saint Gaudens Ultra High Relief my favorite coin by going all out and making it a two troy ounce coin or maybe even larger if necessary. Considering today's gold prices, doubling or tripling the asking price of the Saint Gaudens coin in 2009 is nothing.
I will be buying the 1907 Best of the Mint high relief Saint Gaudens coin to complete the Best of the Mint set. Due to its slightly larger size, I might like it even more than the 2009 Ultra High Relief Saint Gaudens. Nothing I have beats the packaging of the 2009 UHR, though. I love the nice wooden box and the hardback booklet.
I don't have the Flowing Hair because I wasn't aware of its release. I almost certainly would have purchased it had I known. America's early coins are kind of funny in retrospect. The artist who drew Lady Liberty was not that good a portrait artist and the bald eagle looks more like a wild turkey than an eagle.

I have one of those, too, as well the regular proof strike. I'm one of those people who likes the regular proof strike more than the reverse proof strikes. To my eyes, the details of the image (the man on the obverse and the bison on the reverse) stand out more when they have a frosty finish on a shiny background (proof) versus a shiny finish on a frosty background (reverse proof). But the Fraser design is terrific and I purchased a fair number of the bullion coins too back in the day.

I think that a true to original size UHR would have been just amazing. At the time it was certainly feasible w the lower gold price.
I agree re the OGP (best ever) and book. I think that the OGP for the Pan Pacs was awesome also. Thats such an amazing set.
Back when gold was cheaper, it would have been incredible to have made a true to size reproduction set.
I should have added the 2006 RP AGE frim the anniversary set to my list of the bedt ever gold coins. That set was awesome. That was back in the day when one could purchase a set w three one oz gold coins for just over 2k...

Will I have to wait for them to release a huge batch at a time or for more sales before delivery? US Mint customer service doesn't seem to have a clue. Y

I ordered mine within 30 seconds after release on Thursday, 27th. The mint emailed me stating there was an issue with my CC. I called customer service and had it resolved in 10 minutes. The order stayed in "Processing" until Monday afternoon, which then changed to "Shipped" around 3pm. Received the set at 10am on Tuesday since I paid for next day delivery, hoping that would somehow increase my chances of receiving a signed Hollis card. I've purchased BOM-01 and 04; no cards unfortunately.
Both sets are great but 04 is super nice.
BTW, the mint CS was super nice, helpful and patient; I fat fingered my CC# wrongly twice. In my defense, it's not my usual CC#. Lol

Gold having a big move, one way or the other, will stimulate some demand. And then, as they approach sell out, people will notice and start snapping up whatever is left.
And, if they don't sell out, they don't sell out. For the ultimate secondary market, there will be no meaningful difference between a final mintage of 15K and 13K.

some small spots that are merely breaks in the finish (not hits) do happen on the silver medals they make. seen lots of complaints about them

They sell enough that they are on cable and satellite TV almost every night. Paying production costs, on air talent, and then TV airtime, in addition to the usual markups everyone in the numismatic supply chain collects from acquisition to final sale.
It's funny, because the people here who mock this have no problem with Dan Carr overstrikes being sold exactly the same way, at exactly the same markups.
It's not predatory. It's just a very expensive way to sell, and they are selling to people who would not otherwise be reached. Except for those Dan Carr overstrikes, the people on this forum are not their market, and their market is not sitting in a Mint waiting room at noon on release days.
With the Dan Carr stuff, plenty of folks here join the ignorant masses and buy from TV. So what's worse, the person who overpays because they don't know any better, or the one who does so knowingly, because they love the product and it's the only way to get it?
I just mean predatory in that people could easily get the same stuff far cheaper. I'd guess many are elderly. I could never do this. I could not enjoy money that I made by taking advantage of people. I guess that's why I'm a physician and not in some type of business that does this.
Sensing some noting that some docs rip people off, I know. There are some bad apples in every profession, but you know what I mean. I'm a cardiac anesthesiologist. We just take care of people.

Thinking on it, while it's of course totally subjective, I agree that this is one of the nicest looking gold coins - ever I think. I think that the original, UHR is tops, then the 1907 HRs, then this. I think that the reverse of the FH gold is just amazing, but not the obverse. Of course, this is true for the original that it is made to emulate. I think that the 2009 UHR is nice looking. However, it's so small that it really takes away from what it could be had it been the size of the original.
I think that the RP Gold Buff is great looking as well.
It will be interesting to see how the 1907 HR looks later this month. The privy marks really hurt the BOMs. Not so much the dime as it's so small, but the others.

I bought the 2009 Saint Gaudens Ultra High Relief coin the year it was issued. I don't rate it as highly as this year's 1804 silver dollar gold coin because the Saint Gaudens coin renders Lady Liberty face-on. I've mentioned somewhere in another thread that the face-on perspective of Liberty on the Saint Gaudens coin is less bad than most because Liberty is rendered full body so the face details are lost due to the smallness of the head which is made smaller by the relative smallness of the coin. The Mint might have been able to make the 2009 Saint Gaudens Ultra High Relief my favorite coin by going all out and making it a two troy ounce coin or maybe even larger if necessary. Considering today's gold prices, doubling or tripling the asking price of the Saint Gaudens coin in 2009 is nothing.
I will be buying the 1907 Best of the Mint high relief Saint Gaudens coin to complete the Best of the Mint set. Due to its slightly larger size, I might like it even more than the 2009 Ultra High Relief Saint Gaudens. Nothing I have beats the packaging of the 2009 UHR, though. I love the nice wooden box and the hardback booklet.
I don't have the Flowing Hair because I wasn't aware of its release. I almost certainly would have purchased it had I known. America's early coins are kind of funny in retrospect. The artist who drew Lady Liberty was not that good a portrait artist and the bald eagle looks more like a wild turkey than an eagle.
I have one of those, too, as well the regular proof strike. I'm one of those people who likes the regular proof strike more than the reverse proof strikes. To my eyes, the details of the image (the man on the obverse and the bison on the reverse) stand out more when they have a frosty finish on a shiny background (proof) versus a shiny finish on a frosty background (reverse proof). But the Fraser design is terrific and I purchased a fair number of the bullion coins too back in the day.

I think that a true to original size UHR would have been just amazing. At the time it was certainly feasible w the lower gold price.
I agree re the OGP (best ever) and book. I think that the OGP for the Pan Pacs was awesome also. Thats such an amazing set.
Back when gold was cheaper, it would have been incredible to have made a true to size reproduction set.
I should have added the 2006 RP AGE frim the anniversary set to my list of the bedt ever gold coins. That set was awesome. That was back in the day when one could purchase a set w three one oz gold coins for just over 2k...
I ordered my Best of the Mint (4) 1804 last Thursday at 3 pm. It is still showing as backordered. Was advised that it would change on Sep 2. Does anyone have an idea of when I can expect it. Will I have to wait for them to release a huge batch at a time or for more sales before delivery? US Mint customer service doesn't seem to have a clue. Y
From past experience, until tracking information posts the carrier's delivery date, there's no other information they can offer, and even before it's in the carriers possession, it's indeterminable. Even after the tracking link is established, delivery timing is subject to change.
Patience is key.

I ordered mine within 30 seconds after release on Thursday, 27th. The mint emailed me stating there was an issue with my CC. I called customer service and had it resolved in 10 minutes. The order stayed in "Processing" until Monday afternoon, which then changed to "Shipped" around 3pm. Received the set at 10am on Tuesday since I paid for next day delivery, hoping that would somehow increase my chances of receiving a signed Hollis card. I've purchased BOM-01 and 04; no cards unfortunately.
Both sets are great but 04 is super nice.
BTW, the mint CS was super nice, helpful and patient; I fat fingered my CC# wrongly twice. In my defense, it's not my usual CC#. Lol

Gold having a big move, one way or the other, will stimulate some demand. And then, as they approach sell out, people will notice and start snapping up whatever is left.
And, if they don't sell out, they don't sell out. For the ultimate secondary market, there will be no meaningful difference between a final mintage of 15K and 13K.
I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, but where do the sales numbers appear in that ATS link?
