Is Salvador Perez a hall of famer?

I’ve thought about this quite a bit this year since Royals broadcasters keep referring to him as a future HOF’er. I’ve come to the conclusion that since Lance Parrish isn’t in the hall then Salvy probably shouldn’t be. Salvy no doubt has been great defensively his entire career but his reluctance to stop swinging at every pitch that comes in his general direction has really hurt his offensive numbers. He still swings at many, many sweepers from righty’s that end up a foot outside. Terrible .299 OBP. I’m convinced if he had ever learned to lay off those pitches he would compare favorably with Carlton Fisk and Gary Carter offensively.
Here are his numbers compared to Lance Parrish

Yes.
He’s in the range for catchers but he doesn’t feel like a lock.
He almost certainly will get into the Hall Of Very Good. The standards were much higher when Pearish played

First a question for the base bal gu: who in the heck is Pearish??
@Darin, no player with a .261 or .252 lifetime batting average should ever be considered for the MLB HOF.
JMHO, of course.

I say yes to Sal in the HOF. Anytime you get that kind of offensive contribution from the catching position that is special. Just comparing stats to Brian Downing who I always thought was underrated.
Never seen a post from screen name base bal, but with is gu? Georgetown University or something?

Do the words spellcheck and proofread exist in the base bal gu world??

great trailer park boys skit guys
Never seen a post from screen name base bal, but with is gu?
I can only imagine your returned compositions in your formative years, littered with red circles, notation and abbreviations like "sp" and "ww" pointing out the errors. Why, you even made one above while trying to be cute.
All of the brain-farts I reference are by you, are you too daft to figure that out?? Go re-read every one of the multitude of posts you have made and you'll find the flatulence. A suggestion: Stop trying to come across as some deep well of sports knowledge and work on your grammar and spelling. If you do that it'll be less entertaining for me but better for everyone all around.

You do realize your way told to be acting like this right?

And it continues: What in the heck is "your way told" supposed to mean?? Get a grasp of the English language.

Youre funny. Grow up and talk to people like an adult

I'm funny?? Get a command of your Native language. Sentence structure, spelling, punctuation. These are all basics that we're taught in "Grammar" School before we're 10 years old. If you can get that stuff right maybe I'll show some respect for you and treat you like an adult.
Till then, goo goo and ga ga dude.

he is like a carbon copy of lance parish. never compared those two before.
hall of very good for me. that .299 OBP just cannot be ignored.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
Unfortunately he needed a solid twilight and to catch more often in recent years. Had a big drop off this year. 36 years old. I hope he finds a little fountain of youth the next few years to make a push.
I mean Joe Mauer got in and he spent half his career at a1B.

KC has a pretty decent rookie catcher… Carter Jensen. Avg. a little low but very good power and has drawn 58 walks this year which is about twice as many walks as Salvy gets in a season. So he’s pretty much done catching except a backup role, mainly a DH now.
The catching position is in good hands for KC in the future.

If Parrish didn't get hurt, he's in the Hall. He was a great catcher.
Sal... maybe. He's got that I'm-sure-completely-legit 48-homer season and over 300 total. And good defense. But, man, that OBP...
My 2 cents is that if he goes in, he should do so behind Thurman Munson.
Honestly, I never thought of him as a HOF'er - doesn't mean that he's not.
As a Twins fan, the Mauer comparison would be fair. He was spared a lot of grace with the concussion(s) and probably extended too much grace as a 1st ballot.

unable to edit - the Downing comparison to Perez is very interesting. Definitely underrated.

I agree with this, and I'd add Bill Freehan's name to Munson's - they were both clearly better than Perez. There's a HOF that draws the line for admittance higher than all of them, and there's a HOF that draws the line so all three get in. A HOF that draws the line where Perez gets in and Munson and Freehan don't is just silly.
Ooh - I really like the Bill Freehan comparison!
I'd say Perez is the modern-day Bill Freehan.
That said, Perez' great seasons were way better. Not sure what he was doing differently in 2021 but it looks like a Norm Cash year for him...

You could probably count on one hand the number of catchers who have been better than Salvy defensively. I’ve seen him play a lot and it is amazing the number of balls in the dirt that he blocks. He still has the best caught stealing percentage of any catcher playing today. Since defense is hugely important for a catcher and it hasn’t even been mentioned here I thought I would mention it. Pudge and Molina could be better defensively, maybe Bench but not many.
If there was a runner on third with two outs Salvy would be the catcher I would pick to block a ball in the dirt and save the run from scoring.
So when I think more about it I do think Salvy should be in the HOF.
Just a quick comparison…
Bill Freehan CS% 36.9 when league avg. was 37.5 so below avg.
Salvy CS% 33.5 with league avg. of
26.1 or 7 points above league avg.
Munson was 7 points above league avg. on throwing out runners and Bench was 9 points above.
I think Munson should be a HOF’er when you add in the above avg. hitting.
Okay this is my last one…. Pudge Rodriguez was 14 points above league avg. throwing out runners! 😳
